Cat Flea Treatment

Hi there,

Having just - hopefully! - cleared our two cats of a flea invasion I'm keen to keep these blighters well and truly away in the future. Have tried the supermarket flea treatments but they don't seem to work.

The only ones that seem to work well are the ones you get from the vets - made by Bayer, called "Advantage" - but as we have two cats these are quite expensive to buy and apply every month. Does anyone know if there's a cheaper source than the VET for this particular treatment? Alternatively, can anyone recommend another treatment that is effective and cheaper? I had a quick look on the internet but didn't come up with anything - it seems crazy that you can apparently freely order all sorts of human prescription medicines online but not pet medicines/treatments.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Regards,

Have you tried this site? http://www.vet-medic.com/ I bought some worming tablets from them. They arrived within a couple of days and were cheaper than the vets.

For fleas, I used the Bob Martin Spot On treatment on my dogs. That worked with just one application.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Thanks Becles, I'll take a look at the site you suggest.

I think I've tried the Bob Martin range before and it didn't seem to work for my cats - one of them is really sensitive and seems to only like the expensive stuff, as luck would have it!

    Thanks again

    Hi

I was wondering how much you all pay for your flea treatments  Also where you get them from? Im just looking at Frontline plus from a website and they are charging £13.43 for a 3 pack, Delivery is £2.77 but that looks like a flat rate.

If your cats have had fleas, then you should treat their bedding etc as well as them

I've got 7 cats and we use Frontline on them - it's the only thing that seems to work. Will see if I have a record at home of how much it costs - we get it in multipacks from our vet.

The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I paid £21.49 for my last 6 pack of Frontline, but as that was earlier this year it may have gone up now. A friend's cat sadly died a couple of months ago & she has passed on to me a pack of Frontline with only 1 vial used, so that will keep me going for a while & will save me a few £'s. :)
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

We found that Frontline is the best and get multipacks from the vet. It is worth noting that at this time of year they often give 7 vials for the price of 6 - usually until 31 December.

We only treat out cat (not his bedding as he doesn't have any for himself - just my sofa!) - he has never had fleas so something must be working!
