Overpopulated world as it is, longer life expectancy then ever. Personal opinion is that is should be means tested, and no longer paid to persons earning more than the Tax Credits upper limit )£58K ish), and should be limited to 2 children only.
agree with the max number of children. not so sure on the means testing. otherwise it has the potential to go down the route of subsidising people and not encouraging them to work.Remember the time he ate my goldfish? Yes, planned. Thanks for asking.
For information, the only religion that frowns upon all birth control is Catholicism because the purpose of sex is to produce children. If you do not want to produce children then you don't have sex.
Hmmm - just a thought, if CB was to be restricted to 2 children - wouldn't Catholics be complaining? You know, against their religion/human rights/anti PC and all that.
So they would have to be exempt. And then everyone else would complain:rotfl:
Personally I agree with means testing for CB, along the same levels as tax credits (about 58k isn't it?)Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. Sex isn't a human right it's a desire; afterall prisions are all about 'human rights' but they don't allow visitors to have sex with the prisioners in the UK as far as i know.
The Catholic religion states sex is for procreation, and therefore contraceptives should not be used. It is ones human right to belong whichever religion they deem fit (or not). I don't see how anyones human rights would be threatened as they would still have as many children as they wished in the knowledge they would be paying for them.
But yes i know what you mean

Am guilty of having it paid into my account and spending it. I have 2 but £30 a month direct debit goes straight to eldests account for holiday spending money (for her). Also it gets spent on clothes, clubs for both, both in childcare for me to work full time.
I do not agree with it being means tested, I have a reasonable good wage, but as my partner left us have to pay £1100 mortgage and £500 childcare out of wages (I do get CTC). Children and I get no luxuries though am trying hard to save for a holiday next year (but even this is coming from money from slicethepie.com as it would never happen from my wages alone). My youngest has special needs and it is only because of him receiving DLA that I have managed to keep house (prior to this had 6 months of arrears). I cannot afford a buyers pack to put house on market and ex won't agree to sell it as he wants to see me and children on street after repossession which is his main goal in life. Child benefit however it is spent does not cover the cost of bringing up a child.0 -
i recieve 18. a week. for my littel girl
and at the moment am not in a postion to save it all. it goes into the account that i use to pay for my shooping gas, electrcyty extra. and i save 10 a month of it into her inv fund account.. so ispend 58 and save 10 but shes only 2 so dosnt know!"Lifes a climb - but the view up in fantastic"

I put half of my DS child benefit into his account each month rounded up so he gets £40 and the rest goes on nappies and clothes etc. If I have any spare CTC left over at the end of the week that goes in too, after all it is his money. I wouldnt have had a baby unless I could take care of him financially so benefits are just that, a benefit, not money to live off. He is 19 weeks old and my moneysaving combined with the money people gave him when he was born he already has over £700 in his bank account. You would be amazed how much putting away that extra five or ten pounds adds up so quickly. My parents never put any money away for me but I know that my son will have a nest egg to help him when he goes to uni0

child benefit should be to help parents with the cost of bringing up baby. It was never intended to be extra pocket money for the child
when our 3 were young, that child allowance was vital simply to survive in the 70s to 80s0 -
I put my CB and Child tax credits into a nationwide savings account, and use this money to pay for DS's nappies, clothes, food, toys, etc. If I put it into my account, it would get swallowed up by bills.
I think we are all in the same boat.
My friend is having her 6th child, she has used contraception every time and each child was conceived by accident. She has already had one abortion.
My DS was conceived while on contraception, so again an unplanned accident.
It is not fair to generalise that people have a number of kids to claim CB and other related benefits although I know people out there do.
Yes, my friend could have had multiple abortions, got sterilised, etc, but it is her body and her choice. Did she want to live with the ideas of each abortion each year? No, she did not, hence she had the kids. AND all she gets is child benefit, she doesn't get any other help and her husband works.0
