GAME store problem - advice?

Thanks for all the replies.
I am on my 4th system, which has just failed with a hardware fault.
Each time, they have replaced with another pre owned one which has subsequently failed. That's why i have asked to exchange for a new one and pay the difference.
There policy does not allow this, so i have just emailed them to ask for my money back. Then i will buy a new one.
I will let you know the final outcome.

The pre owned consoles would be fit for purpose if the store tested the consoles,
They test the consoles when they come in. However if it's an intermittent fault, it may not be picked up with a cursory test.
If you buy a second hand console, you've got to accept there's some risk of it going wrong. They are second hand goods after all.
This should be taken as a lesson learned.0 -

Except the purchase price being so close to the AS NEW price you would expect it to last a good amount of time, I would say a 2 or 3 years minimum. In this case it seems they go wrong after only a week or 2. That is completely unacceptable, even for second hand goods.0 -

Granted. He's entitled to a refund too. However my point is that if you buy second hand goods, there are no guarantees that it's going to work for X amount of time. Consoles are notorious for developing intermittent faults. Half the 2nd hand0 -
How did it go OP?0

Whereas I would like to agree with you there, this is an xbox 360, and it is well known they have issues with quality; I have had two fail on me while 'out of warranty' but due to failing with the three red lights getting these repaired usually is not an issue (not sure how this would work with a second hand unit).
To the OP, I know it's no use now, but I would never buy a used 360; both of the ones that I have had fail I have know they were going to break around a month before they finally gave up the ghost, and this would be an ideal opportunity to trade them in.
With my last one, I took out the extended warranty at a cost of around £35, and when it failed at around 14 months they exchanged it for a brand new console with the 60GB HDD rather than the 20GB one I had previously. Now normally I would never recommend warranties such as this, but I am pleased I did this time.
One possible suggestion may be to take it into a store, explain your situation, and offer to pay the difference between the trade in price (rather than the price you paid) and a new console, and agree to take out the extended waranty. This way they end up minimising their losses, and you get a new console with and extended warranty. You could also nicely point out (if this is the case) that if the problem is intermittant, you could trade it in at another store and not mention the problems, but you really wouldn't like to do that.....
