No snobbery, just a bit of a dig at people who don't bother to search for things and merely dismiss them as poor if they've never heard of them. I've got *nowt* to be snobbish about, my own television is a low-cost Chinese brand 32" LCD.

gosh i must say i did not mean to start such huge debate! i have not posted much on this website as i am always a bit afraid i will post stuff people are not very interested in/already know about etc...but i have found loads of helpful stuff from other members and wanted to give something back. as i mentioned in the original post, it is not an LCD tv or anything and i purposely included the price so if it was out of people's ranges, it would not mislead. this site is usually really friendly and i thank all those that took the time to explain that it is a decent brand and hence where the price point comes from (i was staggered by the price reduction alone). i would not normally say anything about people being unpleasant to other posters but as i started this thread i feel a bit like i have caused this problem...i just want to point out that i posted in good faith and those that have clarified the situation did the same...if it really is not your bag or you don't like what someone else has posted i do not see why it is necessary to express it in such unpleasant terms. just move on to another thread or something. i am sorry to anyone who has been insulted by other posters on this thread, but then i guess in any community it should be expected now and again.

You can get a 32'' LCD on the same website for £399. http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/products/details/index~modelcode~LGE-32PG6000~dept~ctv~subdept~PLASMA~brand~lg.htm

    I wouldn't pay £100 for a crt tv.

After buying an LCD (pixelpicture tv) I would!
  • Oh, come on people. I'll bet hardly any of you have ever heard of Beyer?

    They make these...

    BEYDT150.jpeg

But just because you haven't heard of them doesn't make them !!!!.

(The above mentioned headphones are ones used in pretty much every radio station across the county, the DT-150, the hallowed replacement to the ever-faithful DT-100 series :D)
well, it could be agued that they could be the reason that every radio station int he country is bland, boring & lifeless in terms of the musak they play.

though I'm sure that's not the fault of the headphones

Hiya Red - you have a hell of a lot of 'thanks' for your 99 posts (200+) so I think you must be putting some fairly interesting stuff on here ;) - superb....
  • I nearly bought this TV a few years back, and it was £1499 then, and that was on offer... in the end I decided (influenced by the missus) no matter how much I liked it or how good it was, it was not worth the money lol, and ended up with a 100Hz Thomson for £599.

Having said that, the Thomson looked the bizness, and had much better picture quality than any of the other mainstream brands did, especially for a 100Hz set, as others seems to have flaws one way or another, hence Samsung decided 75Hz was better as a comprimise.

I needed to have 100Hz because at the time I was not interested in Plasma as I was waiting for LCD to become affordable and big enough, and I suffer from migraines, so the 100Hz refresh rate on a CRT leaves virtually zero flicker. It also makes viewing a computer on the screen much clearer and I had a media centre back then, probably before most people had even heard of one lol.

The set is still going strong, I gave it to my mother back in 2005 lol!
