  • I do indeed have a direct debit list, in the back of my diary, i kept meeting myself coming backwards until I realised it makes sense to write it down. I have them set up over 7 day periods, since we get TC weekly and the big ones at the beginning of the month. We get paid monthly, pay the big bills, manage the rest weekly. It's working so far. Been paid TC's today, so moved them into savings account, where we cant spend them, will be paid wages too, they'll be moved as well, we've nothing to buy, except weekly shop on Fri/Sat until next year. Budget show's -£45, which means we're in the overdraft, which doesn't matter, but it means we're still not managing our money 100% properly. It will balance out next Tuesday when some more money goes in, and we'll be a few punds up on the month, which will mean a mini overpayment. Hopefully next month will be better.
  • For those of you planning a wedding while clearing debt, you could do what I do... at the end of the day I check my internet bank and if there's *say* £442.84 in my bank, I'll round it to £440 and pay the £2.84 into my savings account. Of course, if you prefer you could do 84p or whatever...

I know it's not logical to save when you have debt, but I'm lucky enough to have a 0% deal and a savings acc that pays 3.5%

  • Good idea, but, there is never any spare money like that in the bank, because everything is budgeted for, every last penny. I only keep what i need for that weeks DD's in the Joint Acc, everything else is in a savings until it needs be in the main account. It's what works for us, but I am always open to suggestions.

My Nan's ill, so I'm going up to the hospital to see her this afternoon. She was admitted to the cancer ward on Xmas Eve. Not nice, but I've left it in a little corner of my brain so we could all enjoy Xmas. Visiting hours are 2-4, that's pants, I mean, I know people need their rest and stuff, but they also need company too. My Nanna's a gregarious person by nature, so she'll be feeling lonely.

Did have a briiliant (and non-credit) Xmas though. Well and truly spoilt I am.

Glad you had a good Christmas, but sorry to read that your Nan is ill. Our local hospital have been cancelling visiting completely, recently, because of the winter vomiting virus, meaning lots of people being without visits at all - although I think it was lifted over Christmas.

  • That's maybe why then. Not getting much feedback from my Mum, I think we're waiting on some test results before they decide what to do. Must be serious though, for them to take her in Xmas Eve.
  • Evening DFW's.

My Nan really doesn't seem well. I'm still not sure what is wrong with her, I seem to be being kept out of the loop.

Seem to have about £20 too much money, budget says £770, I have £790  I best just leave it where it is, I'll surely need it at some point.

Spent a productive morning figuring out train times/hotel bookings. OH bought me tickets for the Doctor Who exhibition in Glasgow, I bought her Girls Aloud tickets in Newcastle, and we're going to see P!nk in Manchester. So, have had fun navigating millions of websites sorting that out. My friend and her daughter are coming to Doctor who and so long as we book as soon as train tickets com out, we can go for £60.80 for all 4 of us, we already have a family & friends railcard, so that helps. Manchester and Newcastle tickets should be £40 for both of us, again booking early. Hoping to get hotels for 2 nights for less than £100, somehow. I messed up the London trip last year, by going way too cheap, and it really ruined a 'romantic' weekend away. The shower fell off the wall, it was like staying in a caravan!
  • Morning DFW's.

Travelodge site is super slow, I need 2 nights in Newcastle in June.

OH is going to get a 16-24 railcard, we're going to Manchester in January, tickets are £76, with Railcard, £60. makes sense to buy one, then we'll save a bit more in April & June too.

Have used O/D, but will clear it asap. Hopefully before the end of January.

    Morning DFW's.

My darling Nanna passed away on 02/01/09, of a Pulmonary embolism, aged 70. Rest in Peace, little Nanna.

I'm very sad, very sad indeed. She hasn't been well since they operated on her 8 weeks ago, and they are 98% sure the embolism was a result of the op. They did everything they could for her, and now she's no longer suffering.

I'm coping, a lot better than I thought I would, though there are whispers it hasn't hit me yet. Mum and grandad are going this morning to the funeral home. Lots of stresses about flowers and pallbearing going on. I plan on fading into the background throughout all this. It's unseemly.

On the DFW front, we are very almost sub 5K, £6.73 off it. I just haven't got £6.73 to nip it down! The next payment should do it though.
