I agree, the garage where Jeannie takes her car should get the girl on reception to write each client and point out their MOT expiry.0 -
Points on license would make certain they don't make the mistake again, and would probably stop it happening altogether. .
No it wouldn't, it does not stop people speeding and under the fixed penalty system £60 and 3 points, how many people continue on to 9 points and in some cases 12 points and a ban, and these in a lot of cases are not "mistakes", watch how many people who are speeding, slow down for the cameras, then go back to breaking the limit after passing it, this is deliberate, although I am not saying that forgetting to renew MOT is deliberate, but just saying fines and points do not always remedy the situation.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -
I think it would be a great idea if MOT centres had to publish their pass rate. That way all the carp centres that failed everybody so they could get some work out of it, would either go out of business or have to start assessing vehicles fairly.
Love to see my local Kwik Fit's pass rate! :rotfl: :rotfl:"He's a maniac, maniac that's for sure,
He will kill your cat and nail him to the door"

It is very easily forgotten. My MOT was due yesterday, something I only realised when I was pulled over by the police on the M25 today!
We were away from Christmas so I could not do it before, and then since 4th January my car has been in a garage to be repaired following a hit and miss in December. I remembered that I had to book the MOT, but couldn't as I had no idea when they would finish the repairs. When I got it back yesterday, I did not remember the MOT among the one zillion other things I had to do and today.....well, the rest as they say is history.
I got a £60 fine on the spot, but at least they let me carry on home which I was very thankful for as I had my baby with me and was two hours from home - I did not fancy waiting for roadside assistance in the cold!0 -
Oh, DO NOT go to Kwick Fit! I did that last year, as I was pressed for time. I soon regretted that! Going back to my local garage this year, the MOT itself is £20 more, but they passed me on something that Kwick Fit failed me on the following year!0

Not that simple. A garage in a rough area such as Moss Side in Manchesteris likely to have a higher fail rate simply because people ride around in sheds that rarely get a service unlike say a garage in Kensington.0 -

AFAIK Only authorised vehicle examiners (normally traffic PCs) have powers to impound vehicles. If a beat bobby had suspicions about a dangerous vehicle he'd probably ask for a traffic unit to deal with it.
An expired MOT, on its own, would not be sufficient grounds. We need the earth for food, water, and shelter.
The earth needs us for nothing.
The earth does not belong to us.

I don't know of any garages that do this except main dealers.0
