My OE a/c on different computers...

Hi there all, I'll try to be as brief as I can!
In a nutshell, I check my OE email on my laptop if I am out & about. I have set it so that all the mail is saved on the server, therefore enabling me to access the same mail when I get back to my home computer. However, my problem is if I send a reply from my laptop, I cannot find that email anywhere when I get back to my home computer, I have to fire up my laptop again.
This causes problems when I am trying to review previous sent mail, as I have to keep flicking from one computer to the other... clear as mud
(probably, please accept my apologies).
Not only that, but sometimes I use my partners desktop at her place. Therefore, I can only access that sent mail when I am there.
I s'pose I am asking is there any way I can save my sent mail on the server, just as I do for my incoming mail?
Many thanks,
Paul.

You need to use a webmail account. If you set up a Hotmail account and use Windows Live Mail, you can use it as a normal email program but it'll synchronise sent/received emails on all. Get your email account you currently use to forward email to the Hotmail account unless you have your own domain and then you set up a redirect on the host service. When setting up the account properties for the hotmail account in Windows Live Mail, change the "From" email address, once you've got it up and running, to your current one and to the world, it'll all be transparent. At your partners place, just use the web interface of Windows Live Mail.
End result is you have fully synchronised email, you send it as me@currentaddress.com, they reply to me@currentaddress.com (and that gets forwarded to your hotmail account) and nobody notices any different.0 -
Set it as IMAP instead of POP3It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Hi there & thanks for the replies above.
On the face of it, setting up as a IMAP account sounds the easie option. If I was to do this, would that just automatically download into my sent folder for each computer when I load up OE?
Also, I have looked at trying to change my account (via Tools - Email Accounts etc.) but do not seem to be able to change it.
Also, if I do change it from POP 3 to IMAP, will there be any other implications or will the email run as normal, just with my sent mail being saved to othe server?
Thanks once again for your replies,
Much appreciated,

Don't try to change the account. Delete the POP£ account and then set the IMAP account up as a new account. It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Hi there all,
firstly thanks very much for your advice. I have played around with setting up an IMAP account and the like & am still having problems obtaining my sent files on different computers, that's just me being a bit of a technophobe (OH, don't know whether I said this or not, but I am using Outlook 2003 & not OE!).
I think I shall have to resort to using my regular computer with all the sent files & then if I send from another computer, save them to a usb or s'thing and copy them into my usual computer (I don't think that's too clear!)
Anyway, thanks once again,

Hi guys
Just read this thread with growing interest.
I've been trying to replicate my web mail account set-up (folders, etc.) on Thunderbird.
I've been (hopefully) reliably informed I need to use IMAP not POP, and after that I got lost.
Does anyone haver the settings I need for Tiscali web mail?
I tried changing POP for IMAP under incoming mail but it just says connection timed out.
Am I doing this correctly or is there something obvious I'm missing?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -

I'm 99.9% certain that Tiscali doesn't support IMAP.
However you can collect Tiscali mail using a Gmail account (IMAP) in conjunction with Gmail Mail Fetcher.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
easy way is to include your address into bcc address too, that way you get it sent to youGOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time.0

Just had a look and it appears that Tiscali may support IMAP. Just waiting for them to come back to me.
If it does, how do I set Thunderbird to use the IMAP settings?
Under servers, it only says for POP3 details.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

OK - just had it confirmed that Tiscali webmail is IMAP compatible.
Can someone tell me how to set up Thunderbird to use IMAP instead of POP or if I need to use another client?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
