  • Hi,
I am getting the exact same error message - 47-AC-3100 0X84008503.
I have reinstalled the modem 5 times, tried all the quick fixes but nothing seems to work.
I have not tried to re-install AOL from scratch yet so I will give that a go.
It all seemed to start after installing Windows Service Pack 3.

    Very odd.

Sorry huns, I'm not techie enough to answer that problem, but I do know that there are lots of FM's who are, and they regularly check this thread, I'm sure that one or more of them will help you further tommorrow.

In the meantime, one further peice of advice I will give you is to give AOL a call if you are paying more than £14.99 per month, I was myself until I rang to complain about their poor service, and I was thinking of changing ISP as I'd seen far better deals available, and my cost was reduced from £17.99 per month to £14.99.

I'll be following this thread to see if I too can pick up a few tips...:D

Did the very same myself. We were paying £17.99 for SILVER and I called them last week and said I was very tempted to join SKY (which was true) and could they do anything for me?. Was offered the same package for £12.99 plus a new Wireless Router (free of charge):T . We're currently using a BT Voyager 105 modem and a little apprehensive about changing to wireless (not very technically minded). Had some really rough times over the last 6/9 months with AOL but things actually have improved lately and fingers crossed it stays that way. Wished I'd had the nerve to call them before because it's very true if you don't ask you don't get.

Just use the wireless router as a wired router-the wireless mode is entirely optional (assuming your PC is still going to be within cable range of your router).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Didn't know you could do that and would feel happier doing as you suggested.
Sorry for sounding such a moron but complete novice when it comes to computers and technology and it scares me a little.

Think of the set up as similar to your existing USB modem. You will have an ethernet/network cable supplied with the router. As long as your PC has an ethernet/network port (which it will have, unless it is more than about 6 years old) you just plug the router into that port, rather than into the USB port.
You can always set up wireless at a later date if you need to connect another PC or a laptop etc.

Thanks for making that so clear to me, fully understand now. It'll also free up a USB port. Not likely to go wireless and won't be getting a laptop. All the best.
