AOL driving me mad, please help!!!

Options
I connect to the internet using a wireless router - netgear and more often than not conncet through the aol browser - I hate ie!

For the past couple of days everytime I sign on I will be on for about 10 mins (during this time it runs really slowly) then it will just sign off then when it trys to automatically reconnect it says can't connect because of error!

I have rebooted the router and my laptop, I have been through aol live help and phone help who have made me reset router settings and made me a different sign on location, but still no joy. It is driving me mad.

i.e will not connect either.

Has anyone got any ideas - they would be much apperciated!

  • Hi Loobylee,

I'm with AOL, they are terrible with connection problems...
I often have the same difficulties which you've mentioned, and gone through to CS which costs a fortune...
I've found that it comes in phases, for weeks and weeks, all's well, then there is no end to getting booted out for no apparent reason...:o

My service is now connected via Dial BB, which is no better or worse.

I've found that it sometimes fixes itself if you turn off your computer altogether, leave it a while then just turn on the computer as normal, then try to sign on. I does seem to work fine doing it that way for me, so hope it may work for you too.

    Good luck!!!

  • Hi
    Thanks for your replies!

It says error then a number (not a dns error - been there done that one)!

Roughly every 10 mins it will just sign off thn be unable to sign on - if I click repair on the wireless thing in the toolbar I can usually connect after that.

I know aol are well known for being pants - but this is really bad now, when it is running it is running dial up speed!!!! Aol are no help at all arrrrgggh!!!

  • I've just checked on some of the things which I've done myself, which have helped me to reconnect, hope they may help you too!

Right click your AOL symbol in the toolbar, which brings up a list of options.

    Click one click fixes.

Scroll down to AOL classic - Quick restore.

    OR further down the list

    Connectivity - Redetect connection devices.

    OR

    Rebuild AOL Adapter/Delete ACS files.

Do let us know if any of them help at all...;)

  • Hi
I have done the ping thing - it seems to be ok no error messages.

This is the error message I get from aol when I can't sign on:

The computer could not get an Internet connection. (Error: 47-AC-3100 0x84008503)

  • Thanks for that martins doll but I have been through all the one click fixes and still nothing - do you think I may have a hardware problem?

Have you tried completely uninstalling AOL software and starting from scratch?

Sorry huns, I'm not techie enough to answer that problem, but I do know that there are lots of FM's who are, and they regularly check this thread, I'm sure that one or more of them will help you further tommorrow.

In the meantime, one further peice of advice I will give you is to give AOL a call if you are paying more than £14.99 per month, I was myself until I rang to complain about their poor service, and I was thinking of changing ISP as I'd seen far better deals available, and my cost was reduced from £17.99 per month to £14.99.

I'll be following this thread to see if I too can pick up a few tips...:D

  • IE also stops working when aol stops and yes it is set to never dial - you just click on it and the web page appears.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the aol software twice!

I am only paying 14.99 per month.

There is no aol conectivity in the add or remove programs - loads of other aol stuff but nothing to do with conectivity.

  • Hi

No I have only tried ping when the aol software works not when it has gone funny so the next time it signs me off I will do it again.

I just like it!!! The favourite buttons and places you can set up and that my email is close to hand. I just don't like the look of explorer! I know I'm weird!!!
