The reason there is no mention of the One tel free directory enquiries is it stopped on 1 November :(

  • As the last two posts relate to Directory Enquiries I have merged them into this thread.

If you click on the link in the first post it will take you to Martin's article where 118118.com is explained.

  • Cable and Wireless also provide directory enquiries at 30p on 118 339.

This is mainly aimed at the business market but I have called and it seems to work -

Would be interesting to learn who offers the most accurate information - there's no point it being cheap if you have to ring more than once. Does anyone offer a refund if they give you the incorrect number?
  • Hi,

Am I right in thinking that if you have Onetel on Mobile Override, it's still worth going through that way for DQ services rather than dialling a DQ service straight from your mobile?

Shame onetel stopped their free service, I used to use it quite a lot!

Hi, I just wanted to check that I am thinking right on this one. I have a contract from o2 where I get 500 free texts a month, so if I text to google SMS on 64664 then I'll just have used one of my free texts - no extra charges anywhere?

Sounds fantastic if that's the case!!

    Thanks.

I got a shock when my Orange bill came in with an extra £15-20 on for my gleeful use of this "free" service. I have 200 texts per month included but as has been previously stated the "short code" services are not necessarily included in your bundle. Even though google were originally saying that it would only cost you your "normal text rate", I got charged even more than the "normal" 12p.

It's a bit like an 0870 "national rate call" that is not included in your free national calls package from you home phone! the use of words is very misleading.
  • Picking up on the comment about needing an accurate & quick DQ service, I remain of the opinion that dear ol' BT take the laurels. Their 'corporate' service is 118707 and costs 29p per number.

    I tried http://www.phonebookoftheworld.com/
for a couple of well known local organisations where i live in UK and neither came up.

I will stick to MSE recommendations for online UK searches.Which are

https://www.118118.com Unlimited searches, no need to register.

https://www.thephonebook.bt.com Unlimited searches, no need to register.

https://www.192.com requires free registration which gives 10 free searches per day, but includes additional search facilities (some need paying for) such as viewing the electoral roll.

https://www.Ukphonebook.com allows five free searches a day if you register.
