Tricks to talk to a human
Comments
-
The http://paulenglish.com/ivr/ site is now closed.
The new site (for UK tips) is http://gethuman.com/uk/.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

usually takes ages to get to someone, particular at peak periods. to get through to a human first --- do as it asks, and dial in the number you are calling about... then when it starts asking you about options, dial 0**
you'll be connected straight away! :j
That actually worked for me, althought the muppet that answered couldn't help me and when he transfered me I was back on hold as usual.
Thanks Anyway.0 -
PayPal US say "agent" as soon as you're given options after entering your phone number and you'll go straight through.0

This topic was highlighted again today on the BBC morning news but they did not have the website details.
The website given below has changed and to save more finger pressing I have given the direct access details. Once on the page just press the drop down for 'country' and press UK, this will bring up the current list of UK based companies on the site.
www.gethuman.com/index.asp
Also there is another list on the 'Thisismoney' website, none of these lists are very big at the moment but if we all contribute to them as we discover new ways to get through we should build a good database eventually.0 -
The 'Thiismoney' website can be accessed via this link
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/help-and-advice/advice-banks/article.html?in_article_id=415590&in_page_id=90&expand=true
The details are towards the bottom of the page0 -
Something I have always found that works is pressing **4
Cant remember which company or insider gave this tip:rolleyes: , but it works most of the time:T:heart: BIG Thank you to Competition posters & the person who created the "entered" button!0 -
The reason it works is because **4 isn't an option on the system. As you haven't pressed a valid option it goes on to the next step in the routing table just like pressing 1 would.
If you want to beat the system just press 1 as soon as they start giving you the options rather than listening to the full message. You're pressing a valid option and because the message has started you interrupt it by going to a valid option.0
