Hey guys, I have just moved from E.on to Npower (online traiff so much cheaper) but I am on economy 7. I want to use an electricity monitor, but can only seem to find one that works with E7, which I believe is the Wattson one. Can anyone confirm that any other device will work, or wont work with E7?

I have looked on ebay, and there are E.on ones available on there, which I believe work on E7. Would this work?

It would appear the feature will be included on the new version of the Eco-Eye. I would hope it would cost less than the Wattson! There were people on here having a go at me for paying £35 for The Owl so Lord knows what they would say to you if you bought the Wattson, lol.

Incidentally, anyone wanting an Owl should wait a week or so and check out ebay. The Daily Mail/British Gas are giving away 100,000 of them to their readers (token collect) and I'm assuming ebay will be flooded with them shortly, inevitably lowering the asking prices! ;)

There's a button you press that toggles the display from actual cost per hour, kwhs per hour, and estimated annual carbon footprint/tonnage (I think). Mine is permanently set to cost per hour. A constantly in yer face reminder of how much what you are doing electrically is costing you. Very powerful tool IMO

I've just got one of these Current Cost monitors which I'm very happy with. I don't have Economy 7 myself, but the transmitter does have a couple of extra sockets for additional current sensing clamps.

    http://www.currentcost.co.uk/

It also allows data to be downloaded onto a PC for further analysis, although the official software hasn't been released yet.

The Eco Gadget shop are selling them for £28 right now.

I don't know how much the second clamp would cost though, but you can call/email the Current Cost people direct, they're a friendly bunch!

This is the device that Eon are giving away with their Energy Saver 5 tariff.

So I have two supplies going into my meter, thus I need to attach two clamp tool things??

Out of interest wizzy how much is economy 7 with npower?

I'm with british gas and was cheapish but now I have to pay a huge 35p a unit for the first 125 each quarter (over £40 a quarter) then 12.54p day and night gone from 4.97p to 5.97p.

I checked and it shows scottish poer as cheapest today!!! lol

it is 13.72 p per unit a day (£50) as a standing charge
    then 11.01p day rate
    night 6.219p

just wonders if yours is cheaper as it appears 6th on my best buy table with

    this rate:

Standing charge n/a 0.00p per day (£0.00 per year) Unit charge (pence per kWh) n/a 26.807p for the first 182 kWh per quarter, and 15.404p thereafter Night unit charge (pence per kWh) n/a 5.114p Discounts Direct Debit discount of £21 per year

so hard to work it all out??

You were misled in the other thread

The one offered by Aldi is suitable for E7 tariffs (as well as single rate tariffs)

The only issue is you may now have difficulty finding one - my local store had a huge stock on Sunday but completely sold out yesterday.

  • Hi, mine is as follows:

    Sign Online 12 Economy 7

Unit rate, up to and including 728kWh per year: 18.61p inc VAT
Unit rate, over 728kWh per year: 13.14p inc VAT
Night unit rate: 4.99p inc VAT

There is no standing charge on this tariff

    Hope this helps
