I keep a pack of "Big Wipes"cost about a fiver a pack in my cleaning stuff.
They clean just about anything,I've used them on upvc window frames before with success.
I first came upon them when decorating, they clean away wet gloss paints, solvents and silicone with just a wipe and none of the smell or mess of turps or white spirit and don't damage surfaces while doing it.
I got mine from Plumb Centre but I've seen them in B&Q too.

Upvc cleaner won't usually get those types of makes off so googling wouldn't work on that occasion. Sticky stuff remover probably the best option as WD40 might mark it. Use UPVC cleaner afterwards to clean the rest however, swarfega's UPVC cleaning wipes are good (I got them in B&Q)
One day I might be more organised...........

Pretty much any oil works for most of these sticky tape residues. I use cheap and cheerful cooking oil.

Try a drop of white spirit if you have any in shed / garage.
  • thanks for the advice I found here. I had lots of very stubborn remnants and found that just one product never worked - eventually found the best combination was:
cooking oil, then nailpolish remover, then WD40! Also "deepio" worked quite well, in place of cooking oil. Nail polish remover the best single agent. Not putting xmas decs up with selotape again!
