however driving without insurance is the MSE thing to do:

Example: Insurance cost £500, Fine for driving without insurance (if you get caught) £250.

    Seems a no brainer ...

£200 fine plus if you drive past an anpr camera then police will have your car away and you pay for the privelidge of it too £105 recovery charge and £12 a day storage if you dont pay and get insurance the cars destroyed so no its no the mse way,

also mse promotes LEGAL money saving

My comment was only half in jest

Obviously I have car insurance and always have done, but it gets my goat that all these things mentioned above DON'T happen. Impounding the car and crushing it if no insurance cert produced within 14 days would be a much more effective deterant than the slap on the wrist and no further checks to see if you've bothered getting insurance.

My daughter has received the cheque for £515.00 and has a new car which she bought for £300 and got £100 for her written off car. She has put the extra £200 in a savings account and will keepit there to pay for any fine and extra insurance if she gets points if and when she goes to court. I am only updating my post not trying to annoy people so please dont shout at me!!
  • Spot on. If they've just re-started the cover from the point you phoned, then your daughter was uninsured and it was illegal for her to be on the road.

If I was the other driver, and that was the case, I'd be getting the book thrown at her.

there are so many uninsured drivers on the road any way because the legal system is so rubbish all they get it a fine and points on a license thats even if they got one, or a ban on an license they dont even had.

Yes I think she has learnt some lessons from this. She still has the threat of prosecution hanging over her but we shall see.

Glad it's worked out well for you.
I don't think you have deserved some of the flack you've got because you are not responsible for your daughters actions.

The written off car belonged to the insurers and not your daughter thus she has just committed another criminal offence.

I also find it amazing they paid out

Absolutely disgusting that morons like your daughter dont get punished

She shouldnt have a car, or licence

Linas, the claim was made against the third party's insurer so the OP's daughter retained the salvage and is free to do with it as she sees fit.

i think that is totally out of order, and says more about you than the op and her daughter
