Contract sim in pay as you go phone

Can you buy a PAYG phone and put a contract SIM in it?

Background - my husband has a contract with Orange and his LG phone has packed in after 8 months. Orange have told him to get in touch with LG regarding repairs but he can't be without a phone for long.

Sim free phones seem quite expensive and as he is only 8 months into a 18 month contract with Orange at £30 per month there is no point him getting a new contract.

So if he buys an Orange PAYG mobile can he just put his contract SIM in

Yes - as long as he sticks to an Orange PAYG phone.

Call up Orange (07973 100150) and ask about Emergency Care. Last time I checked it was £30 fee plus you agree to take their insurance at £6 a month (think its a 4 month minimum). Then a courier will come tomorrow morning with a new phone.

NOTE: ALTHOUGH I WORK FOR ORANGE THIS IS NOT OFFICIAL COMPANY WORD, IM ONLY TRYING TO HELP OUT. CHECK WITH CUSTOMER SERVICES FIRST, AND ON YOUR OWN HEAD BE IT!!!!

You can get any phone - it's just that if you, say, buy an O2 PAYG SIM, the phone may be locked to O2. Most phones can be unlocked for £10 or £15 (at a market or online) so you can use them with any network's SIM card.

Orange are wrnog to suggest he contact LG. If he bought if from them, the responsibility if it fails under warranty is theirs, NOT LG. (always assuming it's not a user-caused problem). Any unlocked or Orange contract or Orange PAYG handset will accept the SIM and provide service until the handset is returned.

He was offered the Care package but it worked out about £70 and we reckon he may as well spend that on another phone which he can sell once his is repaired (hopefully under warranty!)
