Dog friendly holiday in Scotland...

Options
Thinking of having a long weekend away somewhere - Scotland perhaps...

But we want to take the two dogs with us.

Does anyone know of some nice places in Scotland that are relaxing and dog friendly?

www.dogfriendlybritain.co.uk is a good site...

I stayed in a caravan in Scotland at Craig Tara in Ayr but this campsite has rather mixed views with many people, but we only used it as a base and went out for the days. We had 2 dogs with us (the greyhound I've mentioned and my Nan's GSD x).

  • Dunlichity House near Inverness. B&B around £80 per night. They have kennels for dogs, but check availability when you book (as I think the kennel side is run as a separate business as well i.e. not just for hotel guests)

Inverness might be a bit of a hike, depending on where you start and how you intend to travel

  • Thanks.

do any dog friendly hotels actually let you have your dogs inside with you? As our two sleep with us on the bed lol.

We have been going to Ardfern on the West Coast of Scotland for years with our dog. It is a beautiful part of the world with lots to do and see. We have a large dog and are always made very welcome in Craignish Cottages. These are self-catering but very comfortable with central heating and an open fire too. There is a hotel with pub and restaurant and a coffee shop which does good food. You'll get more info at www.lochcraignishcottages.co.uk. Joan, who looks after the cottages is very helpful and will give you lots of info on the area.
  • Nethybridge Hotel allows dogs to share rooms. They are allowed everywhere except the dining room.

This place is properly dog friendly as opposed to dog tolerant.

  • Hi there, we have stayed here http://www.corrieviewlodges.com/ (hope the link works as i'm not techie) 3 or 4 times now, our kids love it and so does our dog, Nic and Lyndsay who ran it then, and hopefully still do, are extremely helpful and friendly. Not been for a couple of years now but our youngest still nags us to go back to "the upside down house" as he calls it. It is beautiful and really clean, oh and he calls it the upside down house because the bedrooms are downstairs and the living area is upstairs, the opposite of home, lol. It's in Spean Bridge which is quite close to Fort William and about an hour away from Inverness. HTH

ooh think i've talked myself into trying to get OH to take a long weekend and go back again.

  • Hi try the Dogs Trust web site they have some lovely places all over and the best thing is you can take your pet. I have given you the link hope it's not too late. P.S The other good thing is for each break you take a donation goes to the charity.
