Switching problem - MoneySupermarket switch to EON

I did a energy via Moneysupermarket (MS) in the middle of July and got an e-mail back basically saying that they all the the info and that the switch would take place within 6-8 weeks. Anyway, I hear nothing so I call up today to see what is happening. I spoke to someone at Moneysupermarket and they said that all EON cases for the past 2 months had been rejected! All of them!

What I have been told is the information collected by EON (via MS) is incorrect (not incorrectly entered by me, but some problem with their system). When this happens they contact MS who in turn contact the customer to rectify. Apparently EON have not been getting in touch with MS and have simply been rejecting all switches.

If that is the case I am assuming hundreds of people here will have had this problem. Has anyone else experienced problems switching to EON via MS in the past 2 months?

The really annoying thing is that there are no longer capped tariffs available at the rates offered 2 months ago, so it appears that my energy bills will go up due to no fault of my own. I will be pursuing this further but I am not hopeful.

So this is also a warning to anyone else that has switched to EON via Moneysupermarket. If you have not heard anything I would urge you to get in touch with Moneysupermarket for an update.

  • I work for Eon and have heard nothing about this. I've certainly seen lots of MS sales go thorugh recently and haven't seen any internal communications saying there's any problems - we do usually get that sort of note distributed if there's a known issue.
  • Are you sure its not just your application that has been rejected and you are merely scaremongering?!

Nope, MS called me today to tell me the problem. Their words to me were "EON have had a big problem and rejected every switch transaction from them". Seems a bit of an extreme response tbh, but am now waiting for call back from the manager. I only pass on what I was told in case others are in the same boat.

I'm not very happy about the whole situation as I did all this 2 months ago and have an e-mail confirming my application and have received nothing since. Even if EON rejected my individual transaction (which MS deny) then no one has notified me.

Thanks for the reply brysiewysie, I will mention this if MS stick to the line that it is an EON problem.

I've heard of several people having problems with 'Moneysupermarket' I always use Quidco and have only ever had 1 problem ,which was solved with an 'Enquiry' to them.
  • must suck to be rejected, so who did you speak to?
  • no doubt andysdad has had issues based on the fact you use quidco you soundlike a penny grabber not a penny saver so the people you talk to would also be the same people. large organistions give there time to these people but get waisted as a thank you.

Nice reply, you'll go far here.

I've heard of people having switches to E-on rejected because E-on havent updated their records so that if your property has been supplied by them or powergen in the past then they still think you are a customer and wont allow the switch as its regarded as a retention and E-on dont allow comparison sites to do retentions.

I only came onto mse this morning to find out where the £30 in my bank account had come from - I had forgotten about switching with them it was so long ago:o

We switched in June and are getting the money now, so keep your fingers crossed it's not widespread..

Well just a little update. I spoke to MS yesterday (again) and they have no idea what is going on. They have confirmed that they can see all of my switch details but nothing has happened. They are also now saying that EON have not rejected my switch, just simply that it hasn't moved.

I have informed MS that I will be asking for financial compensation for the difference between my current supplier and what I would have paid with EON over the next 18 months (given I have e-mail confirmation of switch and there acceptance that they don't know what has happened). Just to add insult to injury I have just received a letter from my current provider stating prices up 30% from next month  .

As no one else as replied I presume this is an isolated incident and doesn't affect everyone who applied for the tariff - it looks like I was misinformed originally by MS
  • These comparrison sites are merely a go between, between the customer and the supplier.

May I ask who are you looking to claim compensation from? MS.com just pass your details on to the supplier so if nothing has happened with your switch then surely the supplier is to blame. Getting a confirmation email from the comparrison sites means nothing more than that your application is being passed on to the supplier. It is not confirming that you will be switched or anything else.

You need to find out what exactly happened to your application, if it was rejected then there is nothing you can do, if E-on has not processed your application then they are to blame, if your application was not passed onto E-on then MS.com is to blame.

From a lot of posts on here it seems to be that there is some sort of communication problem between the suppliers and the comparrison sites. Are the suppliers not bothered anymore?
