Microsoft Office 2007

My friend has just bought the above, but it's a DVD not a CD. She got a discount as she works for the NHS. She told me I can borrow but I told her I do not think it will work on my computer!! Am I right? Thanks

  • I would say...it probably isn't very legal.
As for whether it would work...I think you would need to enter the Product Key which would then need to be activated with your computer (which would stop it from working on her computer). You might be able to use it a few times without activating it though.
Also, if she "gives" it to you while she is not using it (and uninstalls it), this is probably fine. You may need to ring up to activate in this case, as it is a different computer. You would then need to also uninstall it when you are going to give it back.

If you cannot scroll up in Google Chrome, google:
    "google chrome scroll fix"
I have released a program to fix it.

Or you can get it quite cheap cheap from some ebay shops.
My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.
  • Is it a single user licence? If so then no 1key 1PC. If its multiple licence (ie she can use it for 3 pcs) then you should be ok.

Yes but still not legal, unless the OP also works for the NHS. You can only use it legally under the terms of the site/extended user licence for the NHS.

risky getting an original copy there. I wouldnt buy Software from Ebay to be honest, heard lots of horror stories.

openoffice is free and unless your heavily into VBA for general office tasks would suffice.

  • Yes :-) If you're considering getting OpenOffice, check out the portable apps site to get a portable version. I like recommending portable apps as they keep your computer clean by not installing things in all different locations.

    ;)

I'd personally go for the Home and Student version sold cheaply on Amazon.

I'm with shadowdragon - wouldn't touch eBay for software, unless extremely genuine, with a bargepole.

Depends what you need. Bit like me saying I don't like jam.

Office 2003 Pro is one of the best office suites IMO, 2007 irritates me with it's interface.

OpenOffice is utterly useless for my needs, but might be fine for Home or light users, it is a great piece of open source software.

Good thread discussing what we all use it for here.
