Lentil shortage

OK, I confess, it is my fault. I have only used lentils once before in a mince dish, it was lamb and I thought it went well in the spicy Morroccan style meatballs. Occasionally make soup.
Tonight I tried them in chilli for DH, DS and DD, and my spag bol as I didn't fancy chilli.
Wouldn't you just know it, they all said how nice it was, even DH who had his later than the others, I can't remember him saying a meal was tasty before, (married 34 years yesterday).
So yes, I take the blame, I bought one pack a few months ago, and now there won't be any. Should have been a case of what they never had they wouldn't miss.

Mudgekin, a few months ago at work we were struggling to get the catering size tins of corned beef, our suppliers could not get it, neither could the cash and carry.
It's now available and the price has doubled  I've also noticed that the supermarket prices are creeping up.
Thanks for the alert re the lentils, I will be buying a few bags before the price goes up too muchOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

I had to go without bread flour for ages because I am disabled and unable to leave the house and go around all the shops to find where there was some in stock. Everyone was clearing the shelves in panic of there being a shortage or a price increase. There was never a price increase (except MrA as I said in my previous post which they rolled back) and the only shortage was caused by people panic buying. I saw it on the GC and there was another thread aswell: people posting to say that they had gone and cleared the shelves of all the flour stocks. This was in april.
I often buy an extra of something but don't see the point in having cupboards and cupboards of something stock-piled, especially when it means others get none.
This said everyone has one or two things that they could not live without, and some of use are more attached to lentils than others. Personally I use them for soup and DS adores them, other than that I don't really use them to bulk out as don't really like the effect eating lots of lentils can have!

Edited to say- I went down the street to get some other bits and got a couple of packs then (500g packs)- that will do us for a good while (£1.30 per 500g pack but that was in the local butcher who are more expensive however I like to support the small local shops too and am avoiding going to MrT so often.)Ermutigung wirkt immer besser als Verurteilung.

Morrisons are doing a special deal on red lentils (or they were yesterday according to their website).0

Well to continue with the lentil discussion, oh duly went to Birmingham yesterday, I sent him a text reminding him to get me a big bag of lentils, and various other bits, from an Asian grocers, and when I got in from work this morning was there a bag of shopping waiting for me, was there heck! Phoned him up a while ago and apparently there weren't any Asian grocers in Birmingham yesterday!
So not only do we have a lentil shortage it appears that we have a shortage of grocer's shops too! Perhaps those pesky beetles have infested them all and they've been shut down lol!
I fear he must think I'm more gullible than usual, anyway I now have a shop recommended by a friend and have printed him a map off, so when he visits Birmingham next week just let him tell me there are no shops!
I have boiled up my yellow split peas today, and frozen them in small tubs, so that I can just chuck them into stuff now as well!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Better stock up soon. Winter wouldn't be the same without regular helpings of red lentil and ham soup! Is the going to be a shortage of green (Puy) lentils as well?0

Ive just discovered the delights of lentils but my local healthfood shop is really expensive.
Wheres the best place to buy them in bulk. I use the red lentils at the moment.

The price of red and brown lentils has recently gone through the roof (my wholesale supplier DOUBLED their prices from last year to now!).
The best places to buy are continental/asian/africal stores and cash-and carry places.
