Non-contract iPhone?

Options
Firstly, is there such a thing?

Basically, I would love to have use of an iPhone :) but dont want to be tied to an 18months contract at about £35 per month. I dont mind the initial outlay for the handset but want to stay on my nice cheap contract if poss!

Anyone?

Much obliged in advance of your bountiful help :T

Yes they now do PAYG on the Iphone....but it will cost you 349-399 quid

go onto o2's website there is more info there.....however you cannot use it with any other provider....it must be with o2 (the Iphone 3G cannot be unlocked yet)

Im already on o2 with an old Samsung, just want the handset to put my current sim in if I can. It's o2 so wont need unlocking. Is eBay etc going to be the only option, with guys that have bought one buy no longer want it?!

People selling on eBay usually have imported from the US, and are selling for profit...

well if you just want the old iphone(2G) go to ebay but if you want the new one and peace of mind go to o2....if something goes wrong you can take it back

Is this an issue with compatibility? Wrong charger plug or something?

I don't think so, made for worldwide market, worse case you'll need a plug adapter.

However unless you buy an unlocked or "jailbreaked" version, you'll be tied to using O2, and I'm not sure if the new 3G has been "broken" yet or not.

Like I say though, not fussed being tied to o2 as I am a current o2 user anyway and have a decent cheap tariff, just want to upgrade the phone.

You definately cannot buy the iPhone direct from Apple, so it looks like o2 or eBay

Pays your money, takes your [strike]chance[/strike] choice!

I think if you buy from eBay/US, unless it is specifically an O2 model, or unlocked, it won't work with an O2 PAYG SIM. You'd be better off asking on the forum at https://www.macuser.co.uk they'll know more.
