Silver Cross warranty

Hi sorry not sure if this is in the right place or not. (apologies if it is)
We purchased a Silver cross linear freeway from John Lewis just over a year ago. On saturday the handle at the back of the seat which is used to recline/sit up the seat fell apart (the handle is almost in bits) I contacted John Lewis and they have said that Silvercross offer a 6 month warranty through the store but that if I want it repairing then it will be chargeable! I have contacted Silver cross this morning and they have said that it is a 6 month warranty but normally this is ignored if there is a fault (dependant on what it is) however I have again been told that I should be contacting John Lewis about the matter who in turn tell me to contact Silver cross.
Does anyone know what the warranty is? and wether I am within my rights to get this repaired without having to pay for it as surely something of this nature (a pram) should be made to last longer than a year?
Thanks in advance.

I would contact consumer direct/trading standards to help you exercise your rights under the sale of goods act.
I agree with you that an item like your pram especially when they cost hundreds should last more that just over a year.0
