Normal speakers to PC??

  • So do you think that using an amp of say 200watt max is more suitable so is 100 on each speaker instead of 40?

That is my understanding. This doesn't mean I'm right but I did extensive research when looking for amps and speakers in the past. Clearly Fwor is happy running 200 watt speakers with a 50 watt amp (I assume both rated in the same way). A good question might be waht were you using previously, what power ratings did it have and how long did it last?
  • I should mention the amp I mentioned, which I have, is very heavy. It's doesn't have a cooling fan (can't stand fans) so has an extensive heatsink.
  • I did say price is an issuse but quality is always something I need to consider because it will be used to power some loud trance music! Plus I may look into a sub to in later months. I had the speakers connected to a simple hi fi system maybe 50 watt total out put and they were lots louder then the standard ones but obvious to me that they were no where near what they were designed for or capable of :D So this time I want to, or at least would like to have a go at getting some real quality from them so if I have to spend more to gain 'lots' more then it will have to be done. At least I know now from you guys and your wealth of knowledge on the subject I can confidently know what I am looking for, and when I have had a proper look tomorrow and found something in my price range I will ask your advice so I know if its suitable ;)

How about this one? Can I still change bass trebble etc on this amp or can I do it from my pc? I am guessing there are programmes for that kind of thing on net I can download?

Like the amp I linked to this is a power amp and this is designed for PA use, although the Alesis can also be used in the studio. The right and left volume is set with seperate knobs (same on the Alesis) and there are no other controls. EQ is set on a mixing desk when it's in use. It also has a fan and this could be quite loud as it's for live use rather than studio use. I don't think it's suitable.
  • I can't beleive you're considering a power amp for casual home listening!

This won't go down well with the neighbours. Or your audiologist.
    Russia is HERE
  • I think I would go for something like this:

It seems to cheaper if you buy and amp that is also a receiver. This has a 100 watt output.
  • Hi, thanks again. I want it nice and loud yes but I live in a detatched house in nice area there will be no bother I wont play loud into the early morning lol my days of that are over :D I will probably buy one of those two you mentioned as I am guessing it can be adapted to use on a seperates hi fi which is what I want long term anyway it is just the cash that is the problem while I am paying my ex off for the house:rolleyes: I canny wait till pay day now so I can order and get listening
