Virgin media - getting a good deal!

Hi all
I have recently moved flat and am looking to get a decent internet deal. We won't really need a landline, so have decided to go for the Virgin cable internet (which i have checked we are able to receive)
On their website, for their 10MB package they are currently offering this for £17pm for the first 6 months, and £24pm after. However possibly a month ago when I was having a look around, it cost £16pm for the first 12 months! (then maybe £24 after, can't remember)
What is the likelihood of them honouring this offer? They seem to offer good "retention" packages for existing users but not sure for new customers? or possibly get an even better offer?! Also, are there any particular departments it would be worth speaking to?
maybe will "threaten" to join tiscali instead if they say no...
many thanks for your help in advance!
