Hi all
I'm also having problems with installing SP3. It downloads fine, starts to run then runs into a problem when trying to backup the registry.
I get the following error messages :-
Cannot back up registry key HKCR\.DVR-MS
and if I ignore that I get
Cannot backup registry value HKCR\.DVR-MS,\'Perceived type, video\'
I've done all the other updates except for SQL Server SP4 update which won;t install. I though I'd uninstalled the SQL server section of Visual Basic but obviously not correctly.
Any help greatfully received.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

Erm
You mention Service Pack 3 and Vista in the same post
Service Pack 3 is for Xp only and Vista is upto Service Pack 1 (For now)
Or am I missing something here......:idea:0 -
I'm not seeing Vista in rmg1's post, though I AM seeing Visual Basic!

Sorry - can't see any reference to Vista in my post.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

I also had an abortive intallation of SP3 at the first attempt and had to roll back to a restore point made on the previous day.
The next time I tried to install SP3, I turned off my anti-virus and anti-spyware software and SP3 installed faultlessly in under 15 minutes. Many protection programs will lock files that the SP3 needs access to. Just remember to reactivate those protection programs immediately afterwards.

Thanks for that - now for a numpty-level question ....how do I disable Avira, Ad-aware and Spybot S&D temporarily?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

I dont have avira but it IS just an antivirus so you should just be able to right click the icon and 'exit'?
Adaware doesnt 'usually' run in the background?
Spbot doesnt run in the background either unless you have the 'tea timer' on. In which case goto ADVANCED settings to find it and disable it.:idea:0 -
OK - just disabled internet connection via the router and turned off the AntiVir Guard on Avira.
Tried installing SP3 again, but still no joy.
Now, I vaguely remember a problem with some AMD processor machines built with Intel images that were causing problems.Does anyone know if this has been fixed yet?
BTW, the update site says I've already downloaded the Service Pack. Does anyone know where it's hidden so I can delete it and see if it helps to download from scratch?:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:

It's been a bit odd here. A couple of times I was asked if I wanted to download it, but it seemed nothing at all happened when I clicked to say yes.
I think it must have downloaded in the background sometime - now there's about 500 MB in a folder in Software Distribution\Download - but the last time it asked me if I wanted to install, I clicked yes by mistake, then cancelled it as it was time for bed.
Now it's not repeating the offer, as there's no yellow shield come back in the tray. Can I go to an update exec file I've found in that download folder to start it, or will I have to wait and see if the next update will trigger it (it didn't a couple of weeks ago)?0
