Halifax Student Account Declined

  • I have my student account with Natwest and they have been very good so far, I tried recently to change to Halifax and they declined me too. However when i went into Branch they opened me a current Account with a £250 interest free overdraft.

I asked why I couldn't have the student Account and was informed that they have very few students with Student accounts and it is quite difficult to get one with them as they offer the highest overdraft of any UK bank on the High Street,

To be honest, I think the customer service with Natwest far outstrips that offered by Halifax and am glad to have stuck with them :j
  • I honestly think HSBC are the best bank ever!
Everytime i've had financial problems they've been really good with me, I was given the account no problem with a £1000 overdraft instantly, and when I had my account details stolen and was scammed out of 800 quid they dealt with it really well, despite not having insurance over being scammed they increased my overdraft limit so I could live until they recovered the money for me :)

I've also just rang up and got my overdraft increased again with no problem because im waiting for my loan to come in and have an angry landlord wanting rent quickly!

  • Wrote on another thread about my daughters experience with Halifax.
Shes about to go into her 3rd year at Uni, she has a student account and her 1st year overdraft was 1250.00, the 2nd year it went up to 1500.00. Her overdraft is due for renewal on 1st October, she rang them and was told her overdraft was decreasing to 1000.00. They explained this was the standard rate and no-one ever receives the full 3000.00.
We were furious as she has 400.00 paid in every month by standing order, plus she has just transferred over 1100.00 from her ISA and her student loan will be going in soon.
Their reasons for reducing it ? They said there was no evidence of a salary being paid in. She is currently appealing the overdraft through her branch as they too could not understand it.

    LOve D
  • I had the same problem with the Halifax , but popped in to the branch and appealed it and it was restored to the same amount again... So hope all goes well...

HSBC are EVIL! i've been with them 14 years (since they were Midland bank!) and the last year or so i've had nothing but trouble from them, most recently having to pay £1.27 to get my credit card bill because they sent it without paying the postage for the envelope!!
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j
  • Im not keen on any financial instituation in particular, but slightly biast with Halifax as they have just granted me the full £3000 :T as im now in my 3rd Year, im also in a few K's elsewhere CC, etc, but i think they are satisfied as long as they get a fixed amount paid in each month.. i agree its best to talk to someone though...and haggle!
