Hello,
I applied for a halifax student account online and got my log in details through the post. However, when I sign in there is an application decision link and when I click it, it says: "Application decision declined" Does anyone know how I can find out why I was declined or if I can re-apply?
Thanks

Yeah I was declined too. I got a letter in the post telling me. No idea why I was declined. I already have a student account (which I intended to transfer), and a fairly substantial amount of overdraft and credit card debt. They probably declined me because of my debts. No point applying again until your financial situation has changed.0

I believe that applying online is a bad idea, always best to go in-branch, especially for Halifax. They are known for being quite harsh with their credit scoring and quite a lot of people get turned down by them. I wouldn't bother re-applying, try a different bank.0

I got one with no credit score but i got their basic account a few months before as they look more kindly on existing customers updating onto their student account.0

I got turned down for a halifax student account in branch. They took all my details of course before telling me this but no details as to why. Anyhow a few weeks later i received a letter saying if i wanted feedback as to why i could contact them, so i did but they wanted £3 for the privalige of telling me!0

i had the same problem. i got told to phone up halifax customer service and ask them, they directed me to https://www.experian.com ... if you go there and get a credit report from them (usually £6) it will tell you your credit score and the reasons behind why the score was what it was. if you then ring up halifax CS (use https://www.saynoto0870.com to find the number cheaper) and tell them the reason that your score is low they will reconsider. they might ask you to send in your info to there credit appeals department0

Hmmm... Sorry to hear you all had similar problems. I have no debts or anything so I'm really annoyed with them. I think halifax just suck. No wonder they've sunk in the credit crunch. I'm going with natwest :rolleyes:0

I agree, I had a terrible experience with Halifax so maybe you have been lucky, I'd recommend Natwest had no problems with them in 4 years.0 -
Natwest gave me an account and Ive had bad credit (touch wood, ive been accepted in writing and am just waiting for my card!)Debts incurred through illness and homelessness, starting a degree in September, going bankrupt in November and having a well deserved fresh start in January 2009! Bring on the new year! Interested in thrifty living, and if its green all the better for it! xxx0

Hi
I was puzzled last year as to why I should be declined a halifax student account, particularly as I was 22, had a good credit rating from having credit cards, a morgage etc since i was 18 and never in bad debt.
After explaining my situation in here, people mentioned that their experience is that many can be "too good" to go with halifax. Presumably they are offering 0% borrowing for 3-5 years, and want you to pay a fair bit back to them after that time.0 -
my son went to abbey his bank for a student account and he was declined for going £20 overdrawn twice in 2 yrs went over the road to barclays had no problems and they didnt rush us explained everything and were very helpful.Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out - but I can usually shut her up with cake!0
