I wouldn't bother with that anyway, not enough inputs. It's only got one optical and nowadays you want at least two.
Get a separate 5.1 Decoder/Amp rather than one built into a DVD player. Make sure it has at least two optical inputs. Have a look at what Richer Sounds have on offer.0 -
hi there
getting it from pc world as they will price match amazon plus 10% which will make it £ 120.00, which devices would need to use the optical output ? i think all i will need to connect to it is my recordable freeview box, and xbox 360, then connect the system to my tv ?,many thanks0 -
Freeview box will almost certainly be normal analogue phonos. Sky is optical. Tv could be phono or optical (More than likely just phono though ~ use optical if it has it)
See what you need 'input' wise then find what you can get with at LEAST that number of inputs on.:idea:0 -
as far as xbox 360 goes there is a slot on the part of the component cable that goes into the console for an optical cable to go in. the other end of the optical cable goes into the surround system and then you will have in game 5.1 sound.0

Hi,
I bought one of these from Amazon, great bit of kit for the money. Connects to the TV via hdmi cable then you can watch all your dvd's upscaled & in 5.1. Connect to freeview box with either coaxal or optical. I don't have a 360 box but I would assume it will have either coaxal or optical so use whatever one you are not using for the freeview. You can also connect it to your TV with a scart but it will not upscale dvd's this way.

the odd thing about an xbox 360 is there is no seperate slot for an optical or a coaxial cable. as mentioned previously the optical slot is built into the component cable but if you use a hdmi cable there doesnt seem to be a way of getting the 5.1 sound unless you can still have the component cable connected and get the picture from the hdmi cable.
i've never tried it.0 -

Would recommend richer sounds and maplins. Bro-in-law found it cheaper from these places compared to dixons etcProblem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problemsWell at least i learn something on the way

Hi,
I bought these from Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000CI0S7K
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00109X3JU (even cheaper than I paid)
I did not buy a coaxial as I do not need one, but just search on Amazon if you need one, they are quite good on prices.

that is 2.4 metres and i hear that the longer the cable the more the picture can suffer. in most cases a 1 metre cable is long enough.
how about one of these?
