Could i not just close my existing e-saver account and then open up a new one soon after?
Apparently you don't have to close your existing one at all, you can just open a new one which will get the better rate (eventually).

When i opened one last week, they sent me no correspondence other than a letter which came a few days later. I had to post back a slip to them to confirm my initial deposit ( and tax status) and then a few days later that went through.

In terms of seeing the account on my online banking page, it appeared 2 days later. And i could transfer money to and from it even though my intitial deposit was still waiting to go in.

Its a patience thing. NatWest are just being slow:)

Thank you ashapala, I was just expecting everything to happen instantly the way most things do on-line. I can now view my account on-line and today I have had the necessary paperwork to complete regarding my initial deposit and tax status.

I will now wait until the end of next month to transfer a lump sum over from the Nationwide. I am trying to spread my savings around a bit as I am well over the £35K with Nationwide. I cannot access quite a bit of that money as it is in fixed term accounts.
  • sorry to be stupid but why do you have to wait until the end of next month?

I juset set up a new E savings (i already have one) and i have transfered the total amount of £11k accross, should I have waited or does it make no difference because its within the same account?

I am waiting as advised earlier in this thread. The bonus interest rate does not kick in until the end of the month following the month in which the account was opened.

This means I am getting a better interest rate where my money is presently. When the bonus starts it is better so I will move my cash across. That is my understanding of the advice from people far wiser than me!
  • I opened this account to take advantage of the £50 bonus for paying in a standing order of £100 per month.
I would obviously prefer the new interest rate so If I open a second account could I alter the standing order to go straight into the new account or is it safer to transfer the money from the old account to the new using the fast transfer service?

How do you sign up for one of these accounts. Checked there web site and can't seem to find a way to actually open an account.

    From their FAQ it says
Can I open the account in branch?

No - e-Savings is an internet-only account. However, it’s quick and easy to apply online. To use your e-Savings account you’ll need to register for online banking
but when you click the link it seems to be for signing up to on-line banking for exsisting customers and not for new customers to open an esaver account.
