    HI ALL ,
    I`VE BEEN THINKING OF BUYING A SLOW COOKER FOR A WHILE ,
    BUT DO THEY ACTUALLY SAVE YOU MONEY ON ENERGY USED ?
    I WOULD NORMALLY COOK A CASSEROLE ON A LOW TEMP. IN OVEN FOR 2/3 HOURS .
    I BELIEVE A SLOW COOKER COOKS FOR ABOUT 8 HOURS OR SO .
    I`M A BIT WORRIED INCASE MY ELECTRIC BILL GOES SKY HIGH .
    CAN ANYONE HELP ?:eek:

    Slow cookers use nowhere near the amount of leccy that your oven will do so you shouldn't see a bit jump in you bill. The advantage of them is that they can be left alone while you are out at work and not everyone is confident in doing that with their oven. Having said that my oven is electric and I happily leave it cooking meals while I am out and about. They also come into their own for soup making which you wouldn't normally do in the oven and wouldn't leave too long unattended on the hob. HTH

    I hope you don't mind me mentioning but you have posted in bold capitals, this is a bit aggressive on the eye and is often considered as 'shouting' on forums and some people get a bit ansty about it (not on this board as a rule tho. LOL) so most people use lower case and save capitalization for emphasis only.

    Hi cleo,

    We have an older thread that should answer your question so I have merged your thread with it to keep all the replies together.

    Hi John,  based on what I have read about slow cookers energy usage and that they seem to average at 100watts per hour. Then this should work
    C (pkw/10)
    C = cooking time
    pkw = price per Kilowatt
    If you know these you should be able to work out roughly what each meal is costing you to cook. :smile:
