Would you all mind not talking about me over my head?!? (thanks though Aylana for fighting my corner while I was gone!)

I said I had a phobia in my OP so I really don't know where you are getting the idea that I don't want anyone to say I have a problem...very strange.

My post title should not be: "How can I overcome my phobia?" (but I will consult you next time to ensure I am getting it right) because thats not what I want advice about. I am a psychiatric nurse so I am well aware of exposure therapy and how it works and have partaken in it over the years to get me to the stage I am at currently. I can live with it, it doesn't affect my life on a day to day basis and I can get rid of one if it comes into the house (yes I KILL them - the karma will get me one day...or maybe the plague of flies that hasn't yet decended on me...). I am not allowing this to ruin my life or my sons. We are not recluses, pale and wan, indoors like a pair of veal calves who have never seen the light of day.

We (shock horror) get exercise and do lots of running around, looking at plants and creatures in the park which is a short walk away but is not afflicted with a plague of spiders (must ask the keeper what they use to obliterate the vile beasts next time I see him. Hopefully bleach or an AK-47, maybe I can borrow it?). I just want to be able to use our garden too...

TBH I smell TROLL wind up so I shan't continue defending myself. Have fun.

You were in fact very rude to him/her and you have been just as rude to other posters including the ones who where explaining about phobias. People are not talking over you head, it's the way internet forums and mailing lists work. If you don't like it then don't post on open discussions.
    I'm not cynical I'm realistic :p

You haven't seen the way I look, trollish :p

Of course I'm a troll, thats why I'm on here alot trying to give a bit of advice and learn a bit.

Thankyou, I'm glad someone actually read the thread.

*why oh why can people not understand that the reason I am not interested in "advice" about getting rid of my phobia is because I didn't ASK for advice about getting rid of my phobia?? Sheesh. Talk about unsolicited*

I didn't point a finger as to who the troll was.

As for people talking over my head I meant the "she said this" "she should do that" "she is stupid" I have a name. They were directly talking about me...not the post topic. That is NOT how internet forums work.

Some posters have made it perfectly clear that they don't approve of my wish to get rid of some spiders and I am not interested in what they have to say because they are offering me advice on something I have not asked for advice about and have even actively asked them NOT to advise me on. (not me being rude I might add, just stating the facts)

So how about we go our separate ways. They leave this thread that they don't feel they are being listened to on anyway and, as I started the thread, i'll stay and chat to those people who actually understand what I am asking for advice about and don't want to tell me to pull myself together and stop being stupid.

As far as I can see the only reason to stay would be to wind me up and ridicule me further...or to tell me off like a naughty child....

If you choose to read what I have written as rude, then so be it. People will add their own emphasis to things written on an internet forum. All I am respectfully asking you to do is stop bullying me and let me be, on a thread I started. I don't mind hearing different opinions, I asked on an open forum, but the point I keep making seems to be missed: I didn't ask for help with my phobia.

I have been called stupid, ridiculed for being scared of spiders and been given unsolicited advice which I have asked not to have given and it's me being called rude...

If anyone here has a problem with that get over it.

This is a gardening forum and this is not phobia advice thread.
Please stick to the OP question or I will report to bg and ask them to close it. *sits down*

answer to OP question, not a lot you can do;)

    :confused::confused:

Spiders fall into sinks and the bath from crawling up the walls and the ceiling of the room.

The only way to keep their numbers down is to live in new house that doesn't have lots of cracks and crannies, and ensure that it's kept very clean.

Oh and they swim quite well.

You've obviously never seen one as it squeezes it's way through the segments of waste pipes then!!!!! What have swimming spiders got to do with anything?

A new house will NOT mean you have no spiders, be warned!!!

  • I don't know if it's true but apparently spiders don't like conkers and if you put them around the edge of a room it will keep them out.
Could they possibly be utilised in the garden? You'd probably need an awful lot but your DS will enjoy collecting them.

    Hi,

Each night my washing line is crawling with spiders....does anyone have any hints or tips to prevent them climbing onto the line? I don't want to offend any animal lovers but I am ok with the solution even if it proves fatal to the little blighters......

    Thanks

Anything has to be worthy of a try Georgia. With some of the huge house spiders we've had at times, it's a wonder they don't play conkers with each other! :D Can you picture it..... I can!!!

Conkers is a good wives tale, but unfortunately thats all it is. I don't want to stop you trying it though :D
