how much to take to butlins.

hi,

The whole family are thinking of going to butlins skegness for 4-7 days, was wondering if anybody had been and can give me idea on how much money to take, per person per day. There will be 6 ads and a 2yr old.Budget would include all food and drink while there.
Also if 2yr old wanted photo taken with bob, or barney do you have to pay and if so do you know how much.

thanks

  • I've been to Butlins many times and it cost a fortune! ... do you plan to eat "on the camp" or drive/take bus off camp and buy the weekly shop at the local supermarket?

  • If you plan to eat all meals on camp... it will work out cheaper if you book halfboard or fullboard, rather than self catering. All of the eating "places" are above average prices and will probably cost around £25each per day. If you take children it can be difficult because they have "placed" childrens rides/games/shops all within eyeview of the children lol..each ride ect costing £2+ ... there is alot of free activities for the children so if you have good children you can avoid the extra costs.

  • hi thank you might look off camp, have alot of fussy eaters going so going halfboard or fullboard would not work for us, find pay it but they do not like the choices.

if you fancy a drink or two in the evenings, then take a very big wad of cash with you - prices at Haven are more like nightclub prices last time we were there, I don't doubt Butlins will be the same....

Take your shopping with you, and cook in the caravan, meal plan in advance and take it in turns to cook - if you're in a chalet (do they still have them?) then you can buy fresh milk every morning and have cereal for breakfast, sandwishes for lunch and then only need to eat out once a day.

You do have to pay for the pics with the characters at Haven, not cheap either, but the kids clubs are great fun!

it will def cost a fair bit if you plan on eating out for all meals!

if you stay in an apartment with kitchen area, you could prepare snacks and breakfast, maybe even a light lunch there, then just eat out in the evenings

this is what we tend to do :)

We found half board good value and we have very fussy eaters. At the Bognor Butlins they had a buffet breakfast and dinner system with lots of choices. eg for breakfast there was a choice of cooked items, rolls, fruit, breakfast cerals, pastries, toast, jams etc. The kids love it as they can choose different combinations eg. go to one counter for a hashbrown, another for a bread roll etc. They also could go up as often as they wanted. Same at dinner they might get rice from the chinese meal, roast potatoes from the roast meal section bit and a slice of pizza from the kids section, then pudding and an ice lolly. We were so full from breakfast, we never needed lunch and just had an early evening meal.
  • thank you for all your replys, think might have breakfast in room and then eat dinner out and just make niece pack lunch up.Also thanks for the photo information.

I agree - all the family should get involved.:D

Think beforehand about sandwich fillings you don't need to need a fridge for to save going to the shops for fresh stuff every day...

    meat paste
    crisps
boiled egg ( you can boil an egg in the kettle - the oldstyle board will be able to tell you how)
    jam
    peanut butter
    tinned tuna and sweetcorn

Also pot noodles and pasta are a quick late night snack that keep well too.

We usually put milk cartons in a carrier bag and suspend them out of the window to keep them cool. Shame to waste it letting it go off.:o
