well from what I understand - When u apply for a credit card they will perform a credit check against ur name etc... - Everytime one of these checks is done, it leaves a footprint on ur credit history.

I've been told it's good practice to only apply for a maximum of 2 cards per month.

I've got about eight cards and have just started being rejected so will probably not apply for any more for about six months, when these deals come to an end.

You could apply till rejected then try again in a couple of months...

I don't think current accounts are taken into account

It certainly may help you to reduce your limits on other cards, but then again it is good to have one with a big limit cos some other cards promise to match a limit you have on another card.
    I'm married now! Yippee!

I would agree with nh that it is sensible to stop applying for about six months after you start being rejected.

After 7 rejections - back in May - I have waited and my first application, today, was successful :).

Did u apply for & get accepted by same cards you were rejected by previously? Or a different one? I have been rejected by a bunch of cards recently -- and will try not to apply for any more for a while. But it's tough [twitch, twitch]... -- but at the same time as being rejected I also got accepted by Sainsburys Visa, by Morgan Stanley & most recently by the new HSBC Gold card.

  • OH, Yesterday I applied for one - Egg - that I had not applied for before. Earlier in the year I was rejected by, among others, Halifax One, Lloyds TSB and Smile :o (I have my main current a/c with them).

  • I was refused on line for a Halifax One card at the beginning of the year. When I was opening my regular saver account they asked if I wanted one, did the application in the branch, and was accepted. Odd or what?
  • I am hoping to apply for Smile again, when/if a 0% deal comes around, but I want to start stoozing slowly, because so far I am a stoozing virgin :-[.

They usually extend any 0% offer to existing customers.
