I'm currently using CWPL to purchase a property (on the recommendation of Bairstow Eves Estate Agents)
That's a commission-earning introduction from one part of Countrywide to another, which will probably see you pay more than £250 unnecessarily.

They aren't "recommended" because of any great quality of service, but because the staff are targeted to "up-sell."

Found out this week our vendor is using Countrywide. On the memorandum of sale it states a local solicitor but after chasing the EA about why contracts package hasn't arrived with our solicitor yet (3 months down the line!) it now turns out they are with Countrywide, so wondering if the EA have 'convinced' them to change over. Anyways, I've chased 4 times in the last 3 months since our offer was accepted where contracts are to be told 'they've been sent today'.

Yesterday we were told that the contracts were being sent out 'today or tomorrow'. GRRRRRRRRRR! Our solicitor can't get hold of them, they are not answering emails or phone calls and she won't start searches till she has the contracts.

    What are we in for?!

    What are we in for?!

A long haul, missing/incomplete documents and probably loads of lies and fobbing off. We are hopefully close to exchange on buying a house where the sellers have used Countrywide. It's been such a hassle that if I was ever to move again (not likely after this!) I would make it a condition of the offer that the seller DIDN'T use them.
  • We've been discussing the situation and we've wondered whether it would be worth approaching the vendor (we have direct contact) and explaining what is going on and if things aren't resolved next week asking if he would change surveyancing firm? Probably too much to ask and I dont' know if he will have paid Countrywide fees upfront.

Your solicitor requests a redemption statement from your current lender in advance of completion.

This confirms the amount repayable on a given date and gives a daily rate for upto a week after that date.

  • Good luck to anyone who's buyer is using countrywide!

20 weeks of painful to and froing on pre contract questions because of lost answers, pointless questions has ended in my sale falling through on day of exchange as proof of deposit funds was never established. Buyer can't provide proof of funds easily complication of foreign bank accounts and therefore can't proceed

This should have been the first thing that was looked at before it was allowed to proceed now we are looking at being thousands of pounds out of pocket

CWPL are a nightmare, they lie, different solicitors pick up your file no consistency in there service, you cannot speak to them as you have to go through a call centre. We are waiting a completion we are in the 7 month now, still not complete. They are a nightmare full or lies, rudeness and you have to harrass them to progress forward and they are rude if you call them. DO NOT EVER USE THEM !! They say they are emailing a 3rd party you speak to the 3rd party and they say we haven't received any communication. UTTER waste of money they are.
