planning a simple xmas lunch

I think the best way to spend christmas day is the day that makes us happiest be that eating turkey sandwiches for days after or having a quiet time. Being with those you love is what matters most. Far too early BUT
MERRY CHRISTMAS, very tongue in cheek everyone. LOL Well done Chrissy for communicating as a family as to what your needs as a family are. As for me and my house we will be serving turkey. Good luck for the future ChrissyNothing Changes if Nothing Changes0 -
Christmas lunch is a massive part of Christmas as a whole for me so I couldn't go without my full turkey dinner!
There are ways to make a traditional Christmas meal more simple, e.g. buying a turkey crown that's already stuffed and using frozen roast potatoes, vegetables and readymade stuffing balls! I'm sure they'll all be on special offer nearer the time.

after years of the whole turkey thing my family want a simple meal they have agreed on chicken/rice for DD and chicken curry for DH + myself followed by a quality ice cream. for us its time to get off the turkey treadmill.:j :j :j
Oh the joy!
I wish that were the case with my lot.
We have the "family" every year and have the whole roast meal. Sometimes turkey sometimes goose, sometimes stuffed birds (the 3 or 4 in one).
I organise the whole affair and keep every other !!!!!! out of the kitchen.
This is done after the bitter experience of letting my MIL and SIL, help when they set fire to the cooker, dropped a hot pan of boiling potatoes on the floor and then left all the cleaning up to be done by the magic Xmas fairies.
No one gets in my kitchen at Xmas and I have a knife in my hand at all times when I am talking to people. Seems to work but oh how I hate all that nonsense.
I would much rather have a decent meal that we all enjoy and is easy to make but sadly tradition means more than the actual food0 -
Come on everyone! Get in the Christmas spirit. It's supposed to be hard work and a pain in the !!!!... it's what makes Christmas day special. After all it is only one day of the year.
I am a total Christmas freak... my family hate me!

We have chillis and nachos for Xmas day. Bro is a chef so when we go to his on boxing day we get the full works. And they have a dishwasher so no washing up. i supply the veg from the garden.
we always have a mexican meal on christmas day, fajitas, enchilladas etc. the lot in fact. started a couple of years ago and has now grown into the complete mexican fiesta thing complete with pinatas (sp) instead of crackers!0 -

no offence but you have completely missed the point ! after years of doing the traditional lunch we have realised that christmas is about family and not what you feel obliged to cook/eat.

I have not missed the point at all? I was simply giving my opinion on what Christmas is to me and my family. Being with the family is a massive part of Christmas, but so is a traditional meal.£100 for Christmas challenge: £3/£100 so far!
