  • Based on the gas bill (didn't see that) then the consumption can be considered to be high.

Has the immersion heater been left on?

It wouldnt be the first time (or last) time ive seen that

Is he on economy 7 (primary/secondary units)? If so, he shouldn't be.

    No.

    Primary/secondary units are tier1/tier2 units.

i.e. the first xx kWhs in a quarter charged at a higher rate(primary units)
  • For heating do you use electrical heaters???
It does appear very high ( in the summer i used 500 units in 3months) thats for a 3 bedroom house with the mrs ,me and the baby.

Why would he necessarily use more electricity in the winter? That is pretty high consumption and doesn't look like a very good price, either.

Our last quarter electricity bill was less than £45, 464 kwh over 87 days- two adults and a child in a two bedroom house. We don't cook or heat water using electricity, but do have a tumble dryer (used for all clothes) and dishwasher. £180 for a summer 4 months seems very high to me.

Mistakes in wiring multi occupancy buildings are not uncommon as is mislabelling meters.

    See posts #8, #10 & #12.

We missed that he had gas!!

Actually I believe most people, even without electric heating, have slightly higher bills in winter - lights on longer

There are people on MSE who say their winter elec bills are lower because they have fewer showers or whatever. I've never met anyone who uses more electricity in the summer but I mix in limited social circles! Mostly families who spend a lot of their evenings at home.

If you have gas heating, then lights should be the only extra expense. I don't really take showers in the winter because I'm more inclined to take a bath.

My consumption works out about the same- marginally lower in the winter, but there is the gas bill.

That's the point - someone posted that their electricity consumption was higher in the summer because they used their electric shower so much in the summer.

For me, the summer is much lower. In the winter, there's more washing (six of us wearing all those extra layers), more tumble drying (line dry in the summer), lights on for longer, TVs, games consoles etc etc on longer (kids in more evenings).
