The question really isn't is your electric bill high but is your consumption. Your using 5k units a year, about 40% more than the national average and so your bill is more than most. basically all your supplier does is bill you based on the numbers they get. Watch your meter for a couple of days and see how fast it runs through, you'll see what you are using and why it costs that much.
Flats tend to use more also than houses due to them having downlighters and generally not giving a damn about energy efficiency.
that's my experience anyway.0 -
my meter reads at 6.08 pence per unit0

I don't think that seems all that bad for over 4 months, my electricity bill for a two bedroom flat is around £70 per month although that is for everything as we dont have gas. If your really concerned you should get an energy monitor, you plug this into the socket then your appliance into that and it will tell you how energy efficient your appliance is - just so you know what is using most of your energy. I think a few places are giving them away free. try googling it.:hello:0

It works out at just over 4100 kwh per year and it may be a little higher than expected however if you are all electric in your flat then could be the reason why. Electric heaters are pretty expensive to run.0

How do you reach that figure?
It appears you have taken a pro-rata daily reading for the summer(25/4 to 4/9) when he will use little heating, and assumed that it won't increase in the winter when he will use heating.
If he is all electric I would not be surprised if his annual consumption would be in excess of double the 4,100 you gave!0 -
Yes it may be pro rata however he hasn't yet confimed if he is all electric. And please take into account we live in the UK and not the Sahara.
I don't know about you but there have been many days when my heating has been on during our "summer" and also we are now experiancing much milder winters.
Maybe its just us up here in the north.
The figure as you know is not going to be totally accurate and maybe I should have mentioned this, however with the figures available it is the only starting point. Unless you want me to go into complicated algorithms and daily weather patterns.

Fascinating subject - not boring in the slightest;)
Be most interested in any knowledge you have on the matter.
Are you aware that the algorithms that the Utility companies use, with daily Met Office data inputted, to estimate consumption are written by a member of this forum?0 -

Thanks, we both missed that!0 -
Is he on economy 7 (primary/secondary units)? If so, he shouldn't be.0
