  • Why not have a star named after her!I bought one of these last Christmas on ebay and it was lovely - came in beautiful script and very well presented. Its one of those useless thoughtful gifts that people love! In the future, you would be able to have it back and have a constant reminder of her. So as she has something for herself with it..how about posh talc with one of those furry puffs - my nan always loved them!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Have you had a look at my thread in Old Style about replicating a stocking she might have had as a child. Unsure how to do a link but the thread is called what was in a stocking 70-8- years ago.:)

We did something this for my Father just before he died, having found a letter he wrote to Father Christmas when he was 7 at his sister's house. It was the most marvellous fun finding *all* the toys, sweets, and bits he'd asked for and we included a packing note apologising for the late delivery. It did end up as the most marvellous present and he had a wonderfully nostalgic time.
  • How about a bird feeder that she can hang outside a window? My Mum loved to sit and watch the birds feeding during the winter, when she couldn't get out so much.

For my gran who is well into her 80's I am doing 2 things.

    1. a collage, just A4 size on the computer with lots of pictures of friends, family and local photos on. She has so many pictures that more than one is too much but this way I can give her more than one picture on the one piece of paper and she will (hopefully) enjoy looking at the photos

    2. I am also going to be making her a calender with a different picture on each month

A couple of christmas ago we also got her a mobile phone, think she has only used it a couple of times but she enjoys being able to say she has her own mobile phone!

one year we got my gran a framed copy of an old photo, it was her street party from um, the coronation? i'm tired, can't think straight! it was 1950 or thereabouts. your gran would have been in her 30's then. the newspaper had the photo in their archives and they sold copies. she had lots of photos of her children/grandchildren etc. but none of herself, they were a luxury back then.

a beanbag lap tray is a good idea. my gran also appreciates a walking stick that folds up. when she uses an ordinary stick she leans it against the wall/sofa and then it falls and she can't reach it. the fold-up one goes next to her on the sofa/in her bag etc.

June 1953 was the Coronation, and yes, there were a lot of street parties in towns, village parties in the countryside.

DVD machine? If she isn't housebound, maybe a trip to the theatre, or cinema. If she has everything she needs, and can't get out, maybe you could adopt something. Donkeys, horses etc. if she's an animal lover, or sponsor a child in her name, if she loves children.
I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.
