What to buy a 91 year old for Xmas

Any ideas what to buy my 91 year old grandmother for Xmas?
Her only activities nowadays (after a hectic life) are the tv and looking after herself.
Any useful present that would make her life easier and more comfortable would be good but I can't think of anything.

Have you had a look at my thread in Old Style about replicating a stocking she might have had as a child. Unsure how to do a link but the thread is called what was in a stocking 70-8- years ago.:)0

We used to make up a xmas hamper for my grandparents. Luxury food items and little things they wouldn't buy for themselves.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Hi, I used to give my gran bed socks as she was housebound, I speak in the past tense as she passed away last year aged 86. I do miss her.0

How about a shawl or housecoat? Or a newspaper from the day she was born or other memorable date? Family photos in a nice frame?
JulesThe ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.0 -
A snuggly blanket
Furry cushions
Photos of you and your family in a nice frame
A lap tray (beanbag bottom)
A china cup and saucer
A pamper at a beauty parlour (hair and nails?)
Stories on a tape (Agatha Christie etc)
But above all.... after losing my gorgeous Nan two months ago..... spend some TIME with her and let her know you love her. One day you won't worry if she liked your presents, you'll worry that you didn't spend enough time with her.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
My great uncle was in his 90s when he died and he used to love boiled sweets - humbugs etc! He also like to look at his window box (he lived in an old folks home) so we would always buy him pansies for this. He also loved books about the old days in Birmingham, where he grew up. Agree with Jay Jay, though, often the fact you visit, sit and talk etc means more than any present.0

Thanks for all your ideas. I've had a look at the OS thread too.
My Nan brought me up - so I'm really close to her. She's a fantastic lady and I try and see her as often as I can.
You've given me loads of ideas. Thanks. :T
I daren't give her more than 1 photo, the whole front room is a bit embarrasing she puts every photo of me or my son up around the house. It's starting to look like a shrine!0 -
My great granny loved a box of biscuits at christmas, it wasn't a lot but thats what she always wanted. Have you thought about baking stuff for her, its the thought that counts, you could make it something personal to her, just make sure that she eats it and doesnt hang it on her wallA banker is someone who lends you an umbrella when the sun is shining, and who asks for it back when it start to rain.0

It's so difficult to buy for really old people. They seem to have everything they want. I had to buy a prezzie for my 93 year old granny recently. i went for buying her a nice hamper. She is always telling us she has everything she wants and needs so i figured the only thing she needs to buy is food - so why not buy her some 'nice' food.
You;ve had some good suggestions - espeically the agatha christie books on tape.0 -
Hats off to her being 91, i hope she enjoys a great christmas.
Just make sure shes with family at christmas, thats the main thing.0
