Is this Orange's fault, or mine?

Hiya

I'm no techie, so please speak slowly if you reply!

I have Orange broadband and am not over impressed. While using it, every now and again (prob every day, at least once) the connection drops to Local only rather than Local and Internet, so I can't connect to the internet. Is it something I'm doing wrong, or is it Orange just being cr*p?

Thanks for reading.

Thanks, was just wondering if it was a simple thing, or a common thing before I gave up an hour of my time to hold the line, repeat myself etc etc....

Orange is cr4p. I had no end of problems sorting my mother's Orange connection out.

Turned out it was the piece of rubbish they call a router, which was the 3rd one they supplied.

I bought a new D-Link router and solved most of the connection problems, although upload speeds are still diabolical.

I've heard good things about BT internet and my own connection is with Demon and has been almost faultless in 3 years. Perhaps down 7 hours tops, and 5 of those hours were because BT were replacing the cable to our pole!

I think I'm going to have to change, it's doing my (and my very impatient son's) head in! I think I'm stuck in a contract, though. Will have to investigate.

    Thanks for replying.

  • Mine's been dropping quite regularly at about 11a.m.....for some reason. I'm with orange too.

Before you call them make sure you get a landline number from "say no to 0870", at least it will be a free call then.

  • Just to contrast, my parents are with orange and have no problems.
How do you restore your internet access or does it just come back of it's own accord?

Inamabilis, I just have to wait til it comes back - sometimes a few minutes, sometimes an hour. It's frustrating for me, but tbh I'm just messing about on the net. My son uses it for homework and Xbox live, so gets REALLY cross!

inform orange about it and se what they say, they might send another router out,
  • next time it dies try unplugging the router, waiting 10 seconds then plugging it back in again. Might bring it back straight away and it makes diagnosing your problem easier

Thanks both. I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and ring them. Will have to have a stiff drink first.

Sounds like the router is dropping sync to the orange servers, are there any activity lights on the front of the router that change when it loses internet?
