you should be able to get an internet connection via a Network lead to your router

wondered why its still only XP SP1 ?? and Internet explorer 6 , is it a dodgy copy of windows ??

if so you are probably wasting your time as it will probably get infected again

Thanks Browntoa, I will follow all of those steps later once the children are in bed and I don't have 'little helpers'

    Unfortunately I don't have a router :o

It is definately a genuine copy of windows but the automatic windows updates is switched off. I will sort all those bits out for her when I get it back to her house.

    Really appreciate you help! :)

You say you haven't a router. OK. But do you have an Ethernet modem? Most modern version have a firewall (built in) that you could switch on. That will give you a bit more protection. If you don't, might be worth getting one because it makes streaming a lot slicker as a bonus. Most modernish computers have an Ethernet port. Prices start at around £25.

not all McAfee seems to be there ?? according to the first entry

if its needs removing then use

Click on the following link to download the MCPR removal tool

    http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe

otherwise it's fine now to update that version of windows to SP3 and Internet explorer 7

  • Thanks so very much Browntoa - much appreciated.

I did download and run that MCPR.exe to get rid of mcafee - I'll try running it again. Then I will update the service pack and make sure they have all the virus protection / firewalls loaded and know what they need to do with them!
