  • Kizzyw - you're cakes look great! I used to do baby gift baskets, and hope you dont mind if i share some ideas - came to me after quickly reading through this post.

Are you doing some advertising locally to get in the orders, as you already have leaflets.

u could try - mother & baby groups, playschemes, hospital noticeboards, local shops etc - just see if you can put up a full colour leaflet (knock it up a home with pictures) and you should get some response. Basically anywhere where lots of people go, even doctors surgery - once people see what you do, I'm sure you'll get the interest as it is something different and special. Give some out to everyone you meet (friends, family etc and ask them to give out in their workplaces)

Also you may be able to link up with a florist or local gift/card shop,or even bakery where people order their wedding cakes. Our local florist has a lady who does baby bouquets - she sells them on a sale or return basis for a % of the price. Some florists can print out personalised ribbon - an additional selling point. Or you could probably do your own using a crafty pen thingy!
Hope that helps a bit, and well done hun!

    Worth a try!

Also try advertising in the local news sheet/village mag - we have one in our village and it's not that expensive to advertise in it :)
Local businesses are a good bet too - they're used to getting book people etc so leave a couple of flyers with good pictures on with them - the receptionist is usually the ones that have to organise presents from people and if they can buy something like that instead of having to make a huge effort everytime someone goes on maternity leave they'll probably go for it ;) Make sure you highlight that you can work something to everyones budget! :D

  • Being new to these forums and also wedding stuff, I have to ask: "Towel cakes?"

This is something I've never heard of before, that and nappy cakes! Can someone explain please?

    Hi Milford_Cubicle

Towel cakes are as pictured above really, towels that are rolled to look like cake tiers. So the whole thing looks like a wedding cake but is made out of towels-the ideal choice for a wedding pressie.

As for nappy cakes well they are disposable nappies rolled and held together in a round shape (usually) to be the shape of a tier of cake. Most then have a blanket or similar wrapped around them to give it a smooth edge. Again the whole thing looks like a cake but is made out of nappies and other useful baby items. Have a llok on the nappy cake thread for pics!

A question to all you lucky ladies who have orders for your cakes - Towels or Nappies! Do you deliver them yourself or do they come to your home and pick them up? I don't drive and am thinking it is going to be a big problem. I can just imagine struggling with a 3 tier cake on the bus! Hey!!! I might get some orders - free advertising. LOL.

If I have any orders in work I take them in but otherwise they collect from my home:D

Most of mine are posted, as per on the nappy cake thread, however I also deliver some and also have some collected. :)
