Edinburgh

Options
Okay here's what's happening

It's my better half's birthday in January and I'm taking her to Edinburgh (on a train - don't have a car).

In true moneysaving style we're staying in the Edinburgh Central Travelodge (for £10 a night) and are travelling on GNER Standard Class Advance Purchase tickets.

Because the bare bones of the trip are so skinflintish I want to make the rest of the trip really special for her. Already decided is a champagne picnic breakfast on the train up (bought from a supermarket rather than from GNER's ridiculously priced GO EAT concession) but, not knowing Edinburgh at all, I was wondering if any of you lovely moneysavers could offer me some advice?

We're going the weekend of Jan 6th and I wanted to know if there's anything really good that we shouldn't miss. Any ideas of the top things to do? Open to all suggestions.

She's really into the theatre so will look up theatre listings tomorrow after I've had some sleep, but if tehre are any attractions or events going on I'd really like to know. Or just anything thats there all the time that really shouldn't be missed.

Thanks all

Rich

PS I'd take her to the zoo but I'm scared they might keep her :p

you'll find a number of threads about edinburgh in the local money savers - scotland forum.

My Fairlady is the big production on at the Playhouse theatre...going soon so cant tell you if its any good. Theres lots to do...walk the royal mile, the castle, lunch at Harvey Nicholls (a little expensive ,£15 each for lunch, but beautiful views of the city)...

only thing I would say is wrap up warm. Edinburgh is cold on a summers day!

  • Of course I would suggest you head over to the Scotland Board, I even started a thread especially for our Travel Lodge visitors here.

Lots of info in the Scotland board and very helpful users, ask away or have a read of the existing threads for fun things to do in Edinburgh.

Can highly recommend the Witchery Murder and Mystery tour, have a read of this thread.
