You can't be that naive, Stevie. The US market was just the catalyst but the UK had been up to the exact same thing for many, many years!!!Why do people persist in saying how brilliant they were in forecasting the UK problems
that are related to UK stupid lenders, mewing etc. The problems we are experiencing do relate to the housing market but it was the US housing market and the related CDO'S etc and I am sure most people were not aware of the toxic nature back in 2005.0 -

Have a cup of tea, then take a hot bath, with a bottle of ros!!. Have a gentleman friend pop round to soap your back (£50/day + expenses

;)times arnt that tight for you yet are they Guy?
50 quid a day is awfully low you know, think of the inflation :A  Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -

I'm doing my little bit to drive down inflation - Gordon would be proud.:o
Anyway I'm cheap &, let's be honest, easy."Mrs. Pench, you've won the car contest, would you like a triumph spitfire or 3000 in cash?" He smiled.
Mrs. Pench took the money. "What will you do with it all? Not that it's any of my business," he giggled.
"I think I'll become an alcoholic," said Betty.0 -
It is a good thing - I'm elated.
I've waited for these past two weeks for over 7 years!
Everything will become cheap again...houses, energy, food, clothes, frothy lattes - the lot!
Because few will be able to get a cheap loan... people will have to live within their means again - no longer will you have secretaries & binmen driving 4x4s & taking two holidays a year as if they had the earning clout of a barrister.
If you can hang onto your job (& if you have some - your savings) the future is great.0 -
Let's face it, most of us don't actually bank with these people, or invest with them, or have a mortgage with them. So thus far I am completely unaffected. Now, if Woollies close and take the pick 'n' mix section away, then I agree - we're all doomed.0

The problem is that it's only a matter of time before a regular bank with lots of peoples' savings in it is taken down. Probably more than one.
Of course, this illustrates one flaw with the argument used that bearish posters are 'cheering on the crash'. If you have accumulated some savings and investments then you have most to lose from a bank implosion.
Talking of protecting your cash, saw that gold is up sharply. Just thought I'd mention that

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.0 -

Although older Carolt, I don't think wiser so can only say look after your family and take pleasure in the simple things. That's all I've learnt. Oh, and as my Dad used to say 'they can't take your hands' meaning work yourself out of trouble. Which is what I have always done.
However I have a joke for you....it's my birthday today and I received a card from my husband with the following......
NEWS FLASH.... A thousand boxes of Viagra were stolen last night from a chemist shop.....and inside .....The police are looking for a gang of HARDENED criminals.
Who said romance is dead. A xDon't believe everything you think.

Trying to view current economic situation calmly, but finding it hard, as news is just one thing after another.
Short of taking deep breaths, can anyone older and wiser (or indeed younger and calmer) please explain gently why this is all a Good Thing or why it's better to get it all out of the way, or some such.
Could really do with some optimism.
Alternatively, does anyone know any funny stories or irrelevant but cheery anecdotes to take my mind off the sound of dominoes falling, houses of cards crashing etc.
Please.
i look at it like this, as long as im physicaly able and willing to work ill always get thru. i see no reason to be worried by any of the things happening.
it is also a pluss to have stayed out of the house, credit, debt trap many people find them selves in.
ive yet to come across any meaningfull way the current problems will impact my life.
realy only thoes who have no ability to physicly earn a living should be worried. (if anyone)0
