I use this one in SE London for the past 3-4 years with various cars and all passed 1st time. MOT only centre for £45, online booking system too. http://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/
  • Just used the Tower Hamlets council run centre and they were great. Will definitely be using them again, over other garages I've used in the past. Recommend to anyone in the SE London area.

I was really worried about getting my MOT done and couldn't find any council run ones locally. I ended up going to a place called Michaels Garage (11 Balmoral Gr, London, N7 9NQ, 020 76077380). It was a friendly old greek guy who owned the place and he put my car through (for £55) and even changed a brake light at no extra cost. Highly recommended!

Great recommendation Sidface. Had my car MOT'd this morning at Michael's and it sailed through. The dealership said I needed £450 worth of work in my brakes!!

From the Local council MOT centres page:

"I took my Mini for a service at a London dealership. They told me it needed £1,700 of repairs, many of which would be likely MOT failure issues. Having read this thread, I took the car the following day to the Camden Borough Council MOT Test Centre. This has just saved me £1,700 - more than a month's pay. I can't tell you how happy I am!"

Went to the Tower Hamlets Council run MOT test centre yesterday, brilliant service, even though they hadn't got my booking (website notifications were broken - fixed now) the mechanic worked through his lunch break as I was on a tight schedule! Very friendly and helpful with all my questions too. Passed too! Definitely will be going back. :T
  • When I get an MOT I don't want to take my car to a garage who is trying to make work for themselves to do.

Berkeley don't do repairs so they are not going to find extra things that need fixing on your vehicle. The MOT costs a few quid more but you will not have to pay for any fake extra work which can cost you hundreds of pounds.

Very slick operation, highly regarded, friendly - free tea (and cake today!). I'm moving away from the area but will be driving back here to get future MOTs for my Motorbike and car.

    Highly, highly recommended. Very honest.

Just like Martin says, it's much better to get an MOT from somewhere that doesn't do repairs. Berkeley will sell you wipers, bulbs and tyres to speed things along but don't do any repairs beyond that.

If you live in the Sutton/Epsom/Carshalton/Wallington area, I highly recommend Fergussons Auto Services Ltd, Unit 10, iO Centre, Minden Road (off Kimpton Park Way, behind Tesco Extra), Sutton, Surrey, SM3 9BL (Google them for their website details). They do MOTs for £39, with free collection and delivery, which is a tremendous help. If you book your car for a service (£129 + VAT, including parts) they include a superb wash and valet - my car has never looked so good! Fergussons are members of the Good Garage Scheme and are very helpful. I've used several other MOT centres in this area in the past, but this one is far and away the best and I shall be happy to continue using them.

Ive used my mechanic for years now, and looks after the car a treat! Doesn't charge for small things like bulb replacement, etc. And looks after the car very well. Its a family owned business so they mainly go on recommendation for the last 25 years. Also, one of the only few garages that havnt had penalty points given by the MOT inspectors for low performance. Would recommend to anyone in the NW London area. Give them a try. They do MOT, service, A/C refills, diagnostics, insurance work, body work, etc.
