Does anybody know any council MOTs test centres in Manchester?0
-
There seems to be a distinct lack of council MOT places in South Cumbria. My nearest is either Bamber Bridge near Preston, or Carlisle, both of which are 50 miles away at least.0

Manchester Council don't, but Salford does! If you do a google search for "council run mot centres in manchester" you'll find a forum called honestjohn.co.uk where there is a link to Salford's page on this subject stating their testing station is open to the public. I'd put the link on here but I can't because I'm new:rolleyes:. No exact garage address, but you have to contact:
Turnpike House
631 Eccles New Road
SALFORD
M5 2SH
TEL: 0161 925 1042
If anyone gets the garage details please post.
and I think Bury do too.
*edit - you just need to call the number above to book a test*
*Use it last Friday - £50 for test without a long list of 'things' to have fixed*0 -
should be CH65 3AW, not CH6 3AW as listed (this will take you to Flintshire in Wales!)0

Hi,
Just wanted to say I can highly recommend the council test centre in Crewe (Pyms Lane). Bit of a mix-up with appointments but great otherwise. I rarely get my car checked out (worry they will take advantage and charge me for a load of stuff!) and fully expected it to fail, which it did but only on lights to my joy! So just a tenner on new bulbs which I fitted myself and re-test was fine. Will definitely go there again next time.0 -
hello,
it is a great shame that the mot even though is ment to be an across the board test in many cases is not, i have been to many garages in my time and i have found that they make prices up, and repairs! and i have been to a few fast fit places and caught them spraying wd40 on my shock absorbers trying to say they have an excessive leak! only to get my car home and find the shockers to be ok and find a broken spring they have missed ! oh and dnt even get me started on tyres and cat converters if they only new i was an ex mot tester and have 25 years under my belt, i must say i dnt think it is right to say that the council mot is more fair, and in a way it kind of contradicts vosa because in there eyes every garage out there tests to 1 standard 1 set of rules so why is it that you could take your car to 5 garages lets say and possibly get 5 different results? in reality no one likes to spend money yet if your boiler went in your house and cost you 1000s to sort out you wouldnt think twice about the repair, yet people will drive a car into the ground with dangerous results think about it you could have your mum, dad, auntie, uncle, brother, sister, son or daughter or whoever in your car yet complain about having to have new brakes or steering or suspension components also there are many aspects of the test that are down to testers discretion for example what i thought was excessive another tester may pass and advise?? my advise/opinion is stay away from main dealer and fast fit garages find your self a small independent garage ask them if they do more mots than repairs dnt be afraid to ask! you will find if they do lots of mots and little repairs they prob only fix customers cars they have been looking after for a long period of time to keep there custom, i personally drive 10 miles to the garage i use in crewe i tell my family, friends, and my friends friends to use them and i know all they are interested in is there mot fee think it was 45 for the past 5 years they are great and i know if it does fail it should of failed i used them when i was in the trade due to the red tape of testing your own vehicle it is advised not to do so, they are a great bunch of lads and big jase is a legend! used them for 9 years or more, i think they have been there for 30 years or more but dnt quote me on that huntsbank garage is only place for me!!! :j

Has anybody used the Warrington council run mot test station?
My daughter is looking to get her car mot'd and there are too many people out there who want to rip you off!!
any advice would be appreciated!0 -
The garage I use is cheap for MOT's, only £35. They're all very friendly and do great work. Even general work is cheap and completed to very high standards. I've never had any problems. I have no affiliation with them what so ever, just want to reccoment their work.
They are Shaw Autopoint, Milnrow Road, Shaw, Oldham, OL2 8EQ.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

I've used the the MOT service offered by Rochdale MBC and I'm happy to recommend it to others. The contact details are:
Environmental Management
Green Lane
Heywood OL10 2DY
Tel: 01706 922031
There's a discount for all Rochdale council employees0 -

A receptionist very tersely told me "This is a council run MOT centre" and that "Taxis are a priority" with no private appointments "for at least a month". I think Stockport is not going to be playing ball on helping its residents get a fair deal!
The Stockport number seems to be out of service. anyone know if they shut down :-(QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D0
