Tried to sign up there but asking way to many "silly" questions about my work place which i do not have!
Will try going into local branch tomorrow.
Thanks for all your input guys0 -
Sorry Splog, I couldn't get on the net last night.
What do you mean they are asking you too many questions to which you have no answer? I do have Nationwide FlexAccount and also their credit card. I think it's worth going into local branch and take it from there as once you have the FlexAccount with them it will be easier to get their credit card. Because as much as I agree with using Nationwide debit card, you are always better protected if you use credit card. What I do abroad is that I shop on credit card (for the fraud protection etc, you never know how dodgy the shop is) and take cash out of ATM in local currency on my debit card. Nationwide offer great exchange rates as well as no fees.0 -
i dont think you earn enough for an american express card . id aviod any card that has any connection with ge money .This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Did you ask Northern Bank?0

I would be living within my means (At least at first) but something to keep in mind is that at some point i more than likely will be putting more onto these cards than i get in secure income, so it MAY come down to not being able to pay them at the end of the month but deffenitly the next month, so i think this is another key part of the descison proccess (fees etc)
You should always live within your means otherwise you end up on the slippery slippery slope into uncontrollable debt.0 -
I went for the nation wide one but they said they could not offer me one.
Gave me some phone number to phone about my credit history / lack off history they said i need to basicly spend more borrowed money, phone contract, mail order, blah blah
Did not ask Northern Bank, i have read if i get rejected from any more places it will make me look horrible?
How about one of these mega high interest cards for people with bad credit?
Someone suggested i sign up for this "aqua" card 35.9% APR!
They said better get one of those, live within my means for a year they after building up the credit history apply for one of the main stream ones, bad or good?0 -
Living within your means should be a way of life...... Credit is great but you will eventually have to pay it back.
Cards are good for two things:
Emergency money and planed borrowing
Paying for flights etc etc and being able to claim your money back
If you use it for day to day spending your coasting down the slippery slope to the OR's office.....0 -
I've got a goldfish mastercard - although they are currently changing so they'll belong to Barclaycard so I don't think they're accepting new apps just yet, might be next month
goldfish has upped my credit limit to way more than my monthly income although I would never spend that much and always pay my balance off every month. If you can wait and see about a goldfish card, you earn points on what you spend and then you can redeem them against loads of places - cinema tickets, argos, boots, whsmith, john lewis..... As long as you'd pay it off every month I'd recommend this one.
Have you checked you're on your electoral register to vote where you live? My hubby applied for a card and was living at address diff to where he was registered to vote and so his application was declined. As soon as that was sorted, there was no problem and we both have goldfish cards. Hope this helps somehow!
