Hi all
Background is on option 3 with BT (live in samll village very close to exchange)
I have used Namesco and Plusnet to do speed tests and got the following results (all done within 5 mins)
Namesco gave me the following:
Download Speed: 1844 kbps (230.5 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 224 kbps (28 KB/sec )
Download Speed: 636 kbps (79.5 KB/sec ) Upload Speed: 340 kbps (42.5 KB/sec )
Plusnet gave me the following:
577 kbps (72.1kB/s) 332 kbps (41.5kB/s)
1623 kbps (203kB/s) 373 kbps (46.6kB/s)
Confused as to the big differences of the results? What causes this?
How do I convert these results MB as supposed to be able to get 8MB ?
Sorry if I seem ignorant.
Any advice?
Thanks

You have missed the vital bit in the small print.
You only get "up to" 8mb, and that is what you are getting, I'm afraid.0 -
BT speed test:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:
-provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1056 kbps
Can someone explain what I am actually getting??? Which figure is the most important one to look at?0 -
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1056 kbps
Is this the important bit...is this about 1MB? Should I therefore be looking at a lower package of about 2mMB instead of 8MB?
