    If you are going to use the notebook to go on the net. It is crucial that you have at least a firewall, antivirus and antispyware installed. Without these, you are very likely to come accross problems through nasties you pick up while surfing.

    I remember reading a report that stated that a new computer out of the box only lasted on average 20 minutes before it picked up its first nasty off the net. It really is very important to have proper security on computers nowadays.

  • If you do decide you need Office - check to see if you (or anyone who uses the PC) are eligible for the student/teacher version which for £80 or so allows installay=tion on up to 3 PCs

  • i have not used the computer yet. in fact all i have done is turn it on. I will be using my work laptop for all computer needs until I get everything I need on the new computer first.

    so basically i guess my needs are the following: perhaps you could all recommend what I should get;

    i want to surf, use email
    want word, excel, powerpoint, Access
    i guess I should also get anti virus aswell

    thank you all for your advice. i dont feel half as stupid as yesterday.
