Thanks for having a look and any reply will be appreciated.
Friend has had their BT line activated for broadband. Since that has happened she said that the phone wasnt as clear and cant connect to the net.
I have been around a couple of times to see if I could do anything. Heres the story so far.
Bt Line... Tiscali broadband.
Wireless router (netgear) new.
Now the strange thing is that when using the phone and trying to connect to the web you can hear what I will describe as a fax tone, and then the internet will connect. Hang the phone up and the connection drops.
Rang Bt and they say there is no fault on the line, changed to a different modem, changed the splitters but still no joy.
Tiscali have had the line checked and say there is no fault.
There are no other phones in the house and the wirelss router is connected into the master socket.
Bt want loads of money to visit and if there is no fault will charge. Is there anything else I can do to check the line.
Just a parting note, both the wireless router and the wirless Bt telephone sit side by side on a small unit. could it be as simple as moving the router as there maybe interference ?
Thanks in advance

Are there any other devices connected to the line e.g. Sky box, alarm system etc. Anything connected needs to be filtered with an ADSL filter. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
if you can get into the router settings you could try to change the wireless channel - but I dont think this is the problem - its sounds as though its not been installed correctly. It may not be a fault with the line - but with the equipment which if they supplied it, then they need to sort it too.
Do the wireless units have the ports to be able to connect cables to them so you can try to connect on a wired connection.
netgear routers generally have a good reputation, so I dont think it would be the router .Don't try to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time and annoys the pig0 -
I would try and borrow a different (wired) phone, to rule out the possibility of interference between the router and the cordless phone.Russia is HERE0

Thanks for the replies so far.
Yes, used the test socket, still the same.
Yes, connected via ethernet from pc to router. No change.
Have tried 2 routers, no change.
Nothing else connected, just the phone on the master socket which is the only one in the house.
I have nothing better to do!!!!

How are you "trying to connect to the web"? The router should be permanently connected. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
You don't think OP has a dial-up modem still connected?
