    I would presume the opposite, that the phrase "advanced talks" is "smoke and mirrors". ;)

    (at least Peston appears to have just about 1/2 a clue..........and the bloke with the big ears about 55% of a clue)

    yes course it would lol
    there probs isnt a merger but hsbos need their share price to rise
    so a selected few good news stories leaked to the press get the price rising
    its a typical pr excercise
    besides our friends at the monopolies and mergers commision wouldnt allow such a huge merger

    Normally yes, but as HBOS was freefalling this morning down to 88p, it looked DOOMED.....

    They may have to allow a merger or the bank could fold costing tax payers billions..
